Uhuru’s government spend over KES 5 billion on modernization and expansion of Rivatex.

Ruto’s government has spent over 7 billion as an ongoing investment on Rivatex.

Additionally, it has received more than 1 billion in donations and grants.

Rivatex has had a good market both locally and internationally.

However, Rivatex is now dead. Hospitals have to order hospital curtains and sheets from Eastleigh, which are imported from other countries.

The looting and mismanagement culture in government investments is now ingrained in our DNA, an abominable practice that we have to painfully accept.

President William Ruto has unveiled the government’s plan to build a 60-kilometre expressway linking Nairobi City to Thika town in Kiambu County.

Speaking during the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, December 12, the President said the new highway will complement the existing Thika Road and ease the heavy traffic burden experienced daily.

Ruto noted that construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, adding that the project will significantly improve the movement of people and goods between the two urban centres.

He explained that the expressway will start near the Nairobi Expressway at the Museum Hill interchange and end in Thika town.

“A lot of Kenyans live in Thika, and the current Thika Road is very congested with heavy vehicle usage. I want to announce that next year, we will construct an expressway from Thika to Nairobi at Museum Hill,” the President stated.

In my understanding, the new Risk Based Credit Pricing Model makes no promise to lower interest rates, what it promises is greater transparency & information symmetry on the price build-up in interest rate determination. Through this, then the case for comparable pricing across banks is enhanced.

The french guys had theirs as perfomance based but unfortunately refused to offer alternative routes. However their proposal was ksh 6 per km.

My concern here is 2 things:
1. How was the ksh 8 per km arrived at? For the french guys, KENHA told them that the road reportedly carries an estimated 20,000 vehicles per day and this number increase by 4% annually. What of now?
2. Delivery of this project ends up inflated. Nairobi expressway begun at ksh 44B and by handover in 2022, it was at ksh 100B. How much overuns will ksh 200B accomodate?
