🇺🇸🇵🇸 U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor refused to pause a $655.5 million judgment against the Palestinian Authority and PLO over alleged attacks in Jerusalem from 2002 to 2004 that killed 33 people and wounded many more, the Times of Israel reported.

Sotomayor, who handles emergency applications from New York, gave no explanation and did not refer the request to the full court.

The case was dismissed in 2016 for lack of U.S. jurisdiction, but Congress passed a 2019 law designed to revive such claims against Palestinian bodies. The Supreme Court upheld that law in 2025, allowing an appeals court to reinstate the award.

The PA and PLO warned that enforcement could cripple already-fragile government services in the occupied West Bank, including schools, sanitation and security, particularly if plaintiffs seek Palestinian tax revenues collected and withheld by Israel.
