everyone's talking about their teams like they were at the peak of efficiency and bottlenecked by ability to produce code
here's what things actually look like
- your org rarely has good ideas. ideas being expensive to implement was actually helping
- majority of workers have no reason to be super motivated, they want to do their 9-5 and get back to their life
- they're not using AI to be 10x more effective they're using it to churn out their tasks with less energy spend
- the 2 people on your team that actually tried are now flattened by the slop code everyone is producing, they will quit soon
- even when you produce work faster you're still bottlenecked by bureaucracy and the dozen other realities of shipping something real
- your CFO is like what do you mean each engineer now costs $2000 extra per month in LLM bills
Are you a young person who enjoys stuffing your face with junk food? Fucking go for it. After 45 everything you love to eat will turn on you. I once did Glastonbury on nothing but haribo and pot noodles and was fine. Yday after one donut I needed elastic trousers and a lie down
An idea based on Chaos Engineering principles but doesn't have to do with DevOps or is limited to Engineering.
Could we apply Chaos Engineering principles to teams and get more insights?

Good leaders nurture an environment and create opportunities for everyone to grow.
Seizing these opportunities and putting in the work is up to you.

I've never kept it a secret that I'm not a fan of TDD. I believe in prototype driven development (PDD) with a focus on data driven design (DDD)
I believe the general engineering cycle should be prototype, solidify, refactor, test, minimize, reduce, and simplify in that order.
I never understood those scenes where the hero gets home and pours some whiskey or opens a beer 30'' after they close the door behind them, *but* I'd love a beer right now. 🤷♂️
A lot of managers, especially those from an engineering background, think that management is about doing stuff: defining rules, policies, and procedures; assigning tasks; creating external incentives; fixing problems.
360 or performance reviews should summarise the work you’ve been doing in your 1:1s since the last review.
If not, you need to work on that relationship and have more honest, constructive discussions.
And this is your action item.

Container queries are finally here. This is a big day for CSS 🎉
To celebrate that, I'm starting a new lab to try all things container queries at https://t.co/QJcwq2r9iU. This is inspired by @jensimmons's amazing CSS grid lab.

#DisneyPlus web interface #ux is by far my least favourite. Memory leaks, tab crashes, scrolling lag.
I'm curious about how efficient it works on smart TVs 🤔
