@rezoundous If your out of features to creep, you need to start hitting the slot machine, there's always another one you didn't think of "opus, think of something innovative and cool to add to my project that would be a a good fit, show me the power of opus 5.5, surprise me"
Rexclaw Companions v0.73 is out, and it's no longer Grok-only. Each companion can now run on Grok, OpenAI, Claude, ElevenLabs, Fish Audio or fully local models, mixed in the same call.
Go local and you need no API key at all, using a combo like groq STT, qwen (local brain), and koroko TTS is completely free.
I have been having a lot of fun testing out the new elevenlabs TTS API in particular with SAL.
Sometimes I like to give prompts to claude like 'build me a karaoke feature, impress me, show me the power of opus 5.5 .' and let it run for an hour. Results vary and i'm normally on slop refinement duty afterwards but the hit of dopamine testing what on earth it just did is great every time.
PSA: Grok 4.7 web_search over the API can loop unbounded, and max_turns doesn't stop it.
One request: 294 searches, 17 min, $55. It started with a sensible Steam store-page question i wanted answering⦠then internally broke into a loop of searching things like "placeholder", "test", "a", "b", "c"⦠"jjj", "kkk".
The "kkk" search even cited a Ku Klux Klan article π
I also traced another simple web search request this morning that ran 322 turns/644 searches in 21 min. I'm $83.81 poorer for it. I thought adding max_turns to request would fix, but it did not.
I'd love for you to compare my companion project, I have been obsessed with emulating the grok companions experience for the past 5 months being a longtime user myself also. It uses the same realtime speech model the original app used over your own grok API key, and jev model for an face expression system I am really liking. The speech model is expensive, but it is just as capable as it was before grok companions where removed. https://t.co/nAiX4tMt0B
@xikhar I would rather pivot careers than be forced to vibe code games on a laptop. 2 monitors minimum with a desktop or I'm be heading to off to wendy's
woke up to $55 dollar bill on a single grok 4.7 API background request today, it got stuck in a 17 min agentic loop doing some web research on a basic request because I didn't set the max_turns parameter to a reasonable number. What a fucked up day.
I have decided to fully embrace the rick rubin method as a software developer, my new meditation mantra "I have no technical ability, I know nothing about <coding>. I know what I like and what I don't like. I'm paid for the confidence that I have in my taste, and my ability to express what I feel has proven helpful for <agents>.
@jahirsheikh8 Embrace the Rick Rubin vibe approach: 'I have no technical ability, I know nothing about <coding>. I know what I like and what I don't like. I'm paid for the confidence that have in my taste, and my ability to express what I feel has proven helpful for <agents>.
Having a lot of fun testing Jev for the new expression and gesture systems in Rexclaw.
Every sentence drives the facial tone through the VRM models own baked in expressions, and gets matched against a dlp3d animation library that plays live if a clip fits.
~250ms per line, ~$0.00025 a sentence.
Still tweaking it. Here's a demo:
