A man serves his time. Pays his debt. Walks out of prison… and into a life sentence no judge ever spoke.
We say the system is about justice and rehabilitation. But what happens after release tells a different story. A record doesn’t just follow you — it defines you.
It locks people out of real careers. Not just jobs… careers. The kind that pay enough to live, to provide, to rebuild. What’s left are low-wage options with ceilings so low they trap people in survival mode.
And then we ask why recidivism happens.
Employment is one of the strongest predictors of staying out of prison. That’s not opinion — that’s data. But we’ve built a system where the very opportunities that reduce reoffending are the ones most aggressively denied.
So what are we really doing?
We are creating a permanent underclass.
One that disproportionately affects the poor. One that hits minority communities harder. One that tells a person: no matter what you do, no matter how much you change… this is who you are now.
That’s not justice. That’s status.
A system without a path to redemption isn’t a system of second chances — it’s a system of permanent labels.
There should be a road back.
A structured, earned path where people who have done their time, stayed clean, and proven change can move forward. Not erase the past — but not be forever chained to it either.
Because if we believe people can’t change, then what exactly is the point of punishment in the first place?

Hello, captivating spirit! Jonathan Cruz here, and we're continuing our journey through 'Dear Soulmate' as we delve into the final chapter of this three part series. These letters, penned during my time in confinement, were my rebellion against loneliness, envisioning a woman as fierce and multifaceted as you.

Some letters are messages. This one is a calling.
In this deeply moving episode, we share a mystical letter that came not through ordinary writing, but through divine revelation—a dream that bridged the spiritual and the tangible. This isn't your typical love letter. It's a recognition, a remembering, a stirring of something ancient.
We explore profound questions: What does it mean to protect someone's becoming rather than worship their beauty? How do we build altars in the mundane? What's the difference between fairytale love and path love—between fantasy and the sacred work of truly seeing another soul?
The letter speaks to those who have felt the familiar ache of almost-loves, who have been held by people who desired their presence but feared their depth. It's for souls who crave ritual, reverence, and rawness over surface attraction and temporary things.
Before and after the reading, we dive into reflective questions that invite you to examine your own relationship with love, recognition, and spiritual connection. Have you been settling for fairytales when what you really want is a path? Are you ready for love that smells like sandalwood and sounds like rain on temple roofs?
This episode isn't just about romantic love—it's about soul recognition, divine timing, and the courage to believe that some connections transcend ordinary explanation.
Perfect for: Spiritual seekers, deep thinkers, anyone exploring conscious relationships, those interested in mystical experiences, and souls who believe love is both human and divine.

The first episode of my new podcast, "Dear Soulmate," is officially tune in Friday May 16th at 9am.
Some of you know my story, the paths I've walked. Over 15 years ago, during a time spent deep inside my own head within prison walls, I started writing letters. Not just journal entries, but letters to someone – a soulmate I felt was out there, even if I couldn't see her face. I put down the realness: the longing, the hopes, the promises of loyalty I held onto, but also the hard truths about the struggle inside, the inner demons I wrestled with daily.
Back then, the idea was maybe one day these letters could be like messages in a bottle, cast out hoping they'd find their way. Today, I'm finally casting those messages into the sea.
In this first episode, "Letter One: Do You Cry For Love?", I dive straight into that core feeling – the void, the intense desire for connection, the promises of devotion I'd make... and the raw vulnerability of asking if someone could accept all of you, even the parts you think are tainted.
