Honestly, the more I use AI in software development, the more I understand why software engineering fundamentals still matter.

The better I understand system design, architecture, databases, APIs, debugging, and code quality, the better I can use AI.

It also saves me tokens and time. I can reason about the problem first, provide better context, and guide the AI instead of blindly prompting it to figure everything out.

AI makes you faster, but strong fundamentals help you know what to build, what to ask for, and how to tell when the generated code is wrong.

The goal here isn't to avoid AI. The goal is to become good enough to use it effectively.
