Engineer focused on architecture, high-traffic systems, and clean infrastructure. I build things that scale and stay running. 20+ years hands-on. EN/ES.

I am done with this shit. It is over. The state of engineering right now is horrible. It has been half a month since I started a new role at a big company. Nobody knows anything here. The specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, resolution of those tickets, reports, etc., everything is made by Claude Code. Nobody on my team likes this. They are being forced to ship as much as they can. I have heard multiple times from higher management that pushing code is not a bottleneck, so why are we slow? People are working 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter. Nobody is reading anything. Humans in corporate are doing nothing on their own. Everyone, literally everyone, from an L1 to an L7 engineer here is doing the same thing. Talk to Claude. There is no sense of victory. Nobody is resolving bugs. In reality, nobody is thinking anymore. Everything is done by LLMs. It is so soul-sucking. I would not mind it, to be honest, if we were at least given the time to check out the code and see what is going where. But no, the goal is to just ship. No matter what happens.

The irony here is that nothing has changed. Management is still asking why everything takes so long.

The reason that things take a long time has never changed, AI or not. Things take a long time because things are complicated. And if you rush head long into complicated problems with poorly thought through solutions, they will take longer and longer and longer to implement.

All the old principles still apply. All the same consequences still accrue. The bigger the mess, the longer the time.

[Francisco Suarez @codex73]

@prince_twets @opencode How and where do we get these stats?

[Francisco Suarez @codex73]

@MichaelDwan @Suhail How does it work?

AI agents can write code many times faster than a human. What this means is that you, the programmer, have a large amount of time to use those agents to write unit tests, to write acceptance, tests, to write property tests, to torture test, to mutate test, to QA test, and to otherwise ensure that the code meets its functional and quality requirements. And even after spending all that time, you will still be many times more productive than a human programmer, and the result will be better.

[Francisco Suarez @codex73]

@steipete most likely!! 🤣

[Francisco Suarez @codex73]

[Francisco Suarez @codex73]

@JenMsft Wondering if theres a plan to add native "session restore" to File Explorer?
Currently, tabs only persist across reboots, but I’d love the ability to have my tabs remain or auto-load when manually closing/reopening the app—just like a browser. It’s a daily pain point!

[dax @thdxr]

gov keeps handing anthropic marketing Ws

[dax @thdxr]

i think the models are great and do amazing things day to day

and then i go to use them as a brainstorm partner for creative work and they are just horrible, no amount of steering gets them to be even slightly better

makes you think about what these things actually are

[Francisco Suarez @codex73]

@JenMsft Oddly enough, probably unconventional, the right side might be cool.

[Francisco Suarez @codex73]

@zacbowden Is it available for sale yet?

[Francisco Suarez @codex73]

@RaminNasibov Duke Nuken

[Francisco Suarez @codex73]

@shadcn Agreed. Very good movie 🎬.

[ThePrimeagen @ThePrimeagen]

I super don't understand this. I have to believe you're writing no software of any consequence for this to be true.
