The word "nothing" appears 34 times in King Lear. It begins the play's catastrophe — "Nothing, my lord" — and echoes through every act. Shakespeare rarely repeats a word that deliberately.

The Folio reads "on," not "of." Most modern editions silently change it. "Made on" was standard Elizabethan idiom.
