This is why modern game studios are having layoffs.
Not a single person ever buys a COD game for visual recoil or gun smoke.
Nobody says, “Man, this game has sick idle sway, take my $70!”
But people stop playing and hate these games because of this stuff.
And they keep adding it back in and having to remove it or reduce it after pissing off a “not inconsiderable” portion of the player base.
Why not just remove it?
These are nuisance features that attracts zero new customers and drives away existing ones.
In software design, this hubris is referred to as “opinionated design”.
It’s nonsense.
This is why there are so many layoffs in gaming - they make games with stuff in them that pisses off customers, adds nothing for people who are indifferent, and exist only to serve the developers’ ego “look what I made.”
And with COD and @InfinityWard in particular, this isn’t the first time.
MWII was littered with this crap and here we go again.
@officiaIMrFacts@LoochyTV Agreed. The ADS and gun smoke reminds me more of MWII vs MW19 unfortunately. I would kill just for MW19 with an upgraded engine and fresh coat of paint
This new “hey, let’s make something we know people want and have been asking for forever” strategy is bold and risky.
Isn’t Xbox worried this will only make $500 million dollars instead of the usual $5 million???
Congratulations to Obsidian Games art director Matt Hansen, who reportedly got what he wanted today when Xbox eliminated 3200 positions, including his.
Best of luck in the woods, Matt.
I hate that game developers these days all think they're untouchable geniuses and that it's a human rights violation to be fired for making dogshit games nobody buys.
@JonathanGuck@viewsceo The levels of hopium I’m getting with all the smoke of LeBron going to Minny will give me the biggest let down when he signs with the Cavs.
The Timberwolves are ramping up their push for LeBron James, sources tell @TheAthletic. The pitch: Team w/Ant, LaMelo, Jaden, Rudy in championship-starved Minnesota to go after a title that could cement his case for the throne.
