Today's holiday is a time to celebrate how far we've come and consider how far we have to go. Dr. King's work goes on — today and every day.
A look back: On Oct. 16, 1967, Martin Luther King Jr. enthralled a crowd of more than 6,000 with a 35-minute speech at what was then called Campus Stadium (now Hornet Stadium).
The racial justice and civil rights giant made his Sac State stop while touring college campuses across the country and planning the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign. He transfixed the crowd with powerful words about Black Americans’ struggles and urged them to join him in the fight against injustice.

Had a great @coeSacState staff “Pot & Sip” at The Prickly Pear, Nursery with a Purpose. Owner Mona Bahraini taught us the proper potting & care for our cactus or succulent. While you pot, sip on cactus juice kombucha. If you haven’t been, you should.

With an incoming presidential administration promising hardline immigration policies, Sacramento State’s approximately 500-600 undocumented students face renewed challenges on their path to graduation.
In the latest episode of “Beyond J,” Sac State Dreamer Resource Center coordinator Kim Gomez and Associate Professor Basia Ellis discuss the post-election mood and the support available at Sac State for these students and their families. “It’s good for incoming students to see that we’re not hiding,” Gomez says. “We have so many resources available.”
