After US Ambassador to the UN Mike Walz accused Cuba of repressing and imprisoning political dissidents, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla fired back.
Presenting a photograph of Renee Nicole Good to the UN General Assembly, he states bluntly to Waltz, "This woman cannot be released from jail – because she was murdered by ICE."
Showing image after image of ICE raids and repression of protestors, Rodríguez Parrilla says simply, "This isn't Cuba. This is in the US."
Juan Olvera and his partner Eric Reed were out to dinner in downtown Caldwell, Idaho when a group of men began shouting homophobic slurs at them. After leaving due to harassment, the group followed the two men and assaulted them, sending Reed to the hospital needing stitches in his lip.
"I literally thought I was going to die," Reed told local station KTVB7.
Only one man out of the group was charged, and only with misdemeanor battery. Authorities are unable to pursue hate crime charges as LGBTQ people are still excluded from legal protections.
But Idaho isn't alone in this regard.
Only 31 states have laws against hate crimes on the basis of sexual orientation, and only 17 on the basis of gender identity. Many states also allow what is known as the “trans/gay panic defense” against hate crime charges, where the assailant argues learning a person's gender or sexuality provoked an uncontrolled response of panic or rage, to justify claims of self defense or temporary insanity. Only 15 states and DC have laws banning the use of this defense.
This is why people built guillotines.
GOP Rep. Troy Nehls, when asked about 60% of Americans struggling with affordability: "Affordability? What are you talking about?... I'm gonna get me a couple of big lobster tails. I'm gonna get me some nice rib eyes... Maybe the 60% of Americans don't work as hard as I do."
🚨 LEAK: A document reportedly shows cops warning CEOs and their security teams about potential Luigi Mangione “copycats” and even talk of CLASS WAR as wealth inequality tensions rise, per @TheIntercept.
Status Coup's @JordanChariton breaks it all down:
In US primary after primary, voters are sending the same message: Your stand on genocide is a litmus test. Support for Israel is no longer politically acceptable. The day of reckoning awaits you at the ballot box.
BREAKING NEWS! My antiwar socialist campaign for Congress is proud to be endorsed by The Stranger newspaper!
The Stranger newspaper was described by The New York Times last December as "a progressive kingmaker." It has a readership of an estimated 400,000 people and is the most important endorsement in the Seattle area.
My campaign is fighting for an end to all military aid to Israel and for free healthcare for all funded by taxing the rich. My main opponent is 29-year incumbent Adam Smith, a darling of AIPAC and the war profiteers.
There are only FIVE WEEKS left to go before the August 4th primary election!!
Help us deliver a blow to AIPAC and the pro-genocide Zionist lobby and elect the first-ever revolutionary socialist to the U.S. Congress. Donate and sign up to volunteer now! https://t.co/QZDWPA44EE
Our campaign is proud to be endorsed by Chris Hedges!
Chris Hedges is a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist, author, and host of the online broadcast The Chris Hedges Report.
In his endorsement, Hedges says:
"I’ve admired and supported the revolutionary socialist Kshama Sawant since she was first elected in 2013 to the Seattle City Council. Her fierce commitment to the working class, her steadfast defiance of the billionaires who destroyed our democracy, and her anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist credentials have long made her a special target.
"The billionaire class has pumped millions of dollars into campaigns to defeat her and orchestrated a recall vote in 2021, which she fought and won.
"Her current campaign for Congress is part of our grassroots struggle to wrest power from the hands of the global ruling class. It is a campaign for free healthcare for all funded by taxing the rich. It is a campaign to raise the minimum wage to at least $25 an hour. It is a campaign to block landlords from extorting massive rents and evicting families. It is a campaign to drive politicians like Adam Smith, a tool of big business who is funded by and subservient to the Israel lobby, from Congress.
"In an age when we stand on the cusp of fascism, we cannot rely on the Democratic Party, whose betrayal of the working class and subservience to the rich gave us Trump.
"We need a political earthquake. We need a revolution. But it won’t happen until we stand with revolutionaries like Kshama."
MAJOR BREAKING: Thomas Massie will be giving a Notice of Intent to bring forth a Privileged Resolution to release of ALL names of U.S. Representatives who have used tax dollars to settle sexual misconduct claims.
I support this. Do you?
Don't get sucked into another round of Democratic Party sheep-dogging.
Who funds you runs you. And the toxic funding of the duopoly is only getting worse.
A couple new exceptions to the party ethic is nothing more than window dressing on a duopoly that sold out long ago.
More than 1400 people are confirmed killed by the earthquakes in Venezuela, with tens of thousands more still not accounted for.
The United States has over 900 sanctions in force against Venezuela, greatly hindering relief efforts.
