The story is real. In Nov 1999, Namiko Takaba was stabbed to death in her Nagoya apartment (their 2yo son was home unharmed). Husband Satoru kept the scene untouched and paid rent for 26 years (~22M yen / $145k) hoping future DNA tech would solve it.
In Oct 2025, police matched preserved blood evidence to Kumiko Yasufuku, 69 — Satoru’s former high school classmate. She turned herself in, confessed (motive: jealousy), and was arrested. His persistence worked.
A man's wife was murdered in 1999. He spent the next 26 years paying rent on the apartment because he believed future DNA technology would eventually catch the killer. He was right.
