Kitten Wind Chill needed a blood transfusion, but at the emergency room, they discovered his blood type was B, rare for cats. Area hospitals didnโt have any available. So this little cat got a transfusion of dog blood that was his blood type.
Itโs called a xenotransfusion, which means a species-to-species blood transfusion. There can be significant complications involved in xenotransfusions, which is why his doctors only recommended it as a last resort to save his life due to his critical condition. Thankfully, it worked. Wind Chill is now doing much better and is well on his way to recovery.
