We would have stuck with coal and natural gas until the oceans boiled away.

But the environmental impact is nice and something to feel good about. It is compelling when your self-interests align with doing the right thing too.

There has also been a decades-long effort to make carbon emissions an individual responsibility. Pay no attention to the corporation behind the smog cloud.

You must mind your own carbon footprint.

Ignore the fact a majority of carbon emissions come from just 100 corporations.

Even with a higher cost to install, customers can secure their power for much cheaper than the utilities will offer them.

And with a good NEM program, it gives individuals a chance to control runaway costs in one area of their lives as costs skyrocket everywhere else.

Because the utility might be able to get 2 cents per kWh power purchase agreements, but they sure don't sell customers power at 2 cents. They sell it for 30 cents on average. With rate hikes every year.
