This week has been unrelenting and draining, but I feel encouraged that conversations around police failures, a corrupt police complaints system unfit for purpose and total lack of victim care has dominated much of the media.
I am grateful for the coverage, but also sad and angry that I know from past experience it will be a β5 day wonderβ until they turn to another topic. That makes me angry but after 12 years of fighting for change I am used to that now, and just accept it.
What has been unwavering throughout my long battle, has been the love and support of the public. Ordinary decent people who share my belief that victims of the most horrific abuse deserve to be protected and treated with compassion, kindness and basic human decency! Which all too often isnβt the way they are treated by police and the broken system!!!
In between the media βflashesβ though the victims of the most horrific crimes still come to me and my charity The Maggie Oliver Foundation often desperate for help and support. Our day to day work is critical, as we help change their lives.
But thereβs no way I could do this on my own. I did, and it almost broke me. This week has been a reminder of how important my wonderful team is. Over the past week our message has reached over 2 MILLION people on Socials alone. Thatβs without all the millions listening in the live press conference and all the interviews Iβve done. And whilst I am the one the public see in the spotlight, what you donβt see is the amazing work that our small team at The Maggie Oliver Foundation do in the background to make this all possible! I could not do this alone! My team are AMAZING!!!!!!
Our service is absolutely free to anyone who needs us, with 30 wonderful volunteers, and a tiny staff team of 5 incredible human beings without whom we couldnβt exist. But we are drowning in the work we do, and we need to grow, we need more special staff members alongside us or we will just burn out!
As I have said before, we do not accept any public funding as I want to be able to speak the absolute truth, to give survivors a voice, without being βcontrolledβ by those who would like me to be silent. So we rely entirely on fundraising, donations, grants and sponsored events etc to cover our costs.
And once a year we hold our Annual Fundraising Ball!! I would LOVE to see some of you there. Whilst our work is very serious, this will be a night filled with hope, inspiration and fun whilst raising critical funds so we can continue our important work. I do also know that this price may be out of reach of many in todays tough world, but this is our only fundraiser of the year and itβs aim is to raise funds for our work, whilst promising to make it a night to remember as well!

Today we remember the one and only Dr Kate Granger MBE who died on this day in 2016.
Kate was an absolute inspiration to thousands across the NHS and her legacy lives on in so much of what we do.
