I can’t shake the feeling that one of the causes of the Oceangate debacle was the horrible misuse of #LEANmanufacturing principles. Safety is not a ‘waste’ - it’s a backstop. https://t.co/zFj18PZ4aW
So: we can't define tax avoidance, but we know it when we see it. We can define tax evasion, and should only apply it to deliberate malfeasance. But in reality most modern "tax avoidance schemes" skirt the line between avoidance and evasion, and often tip over the edge.
@BenChu_@KirstyWark@guyadams The Mail's rather brilliant response to this was to say that, since Barrowman denied any connection to Vanquish, he didn't have standing to make a complaint on its behalf. IPSO agreed.
Whoopsie.
The Daily Mail just won the right to say Douglas Barrowman has "cocktail-sausage fingers".
And it won the right to say his actions ruined thousands of lives, led to two suicides, and that he lied about his ties to a likely fraudulent tax scheme. Thread.
I work for HMRC, part of my job is identifying who to audit. I go on Facebook business groups and find the biggest 'Cash is King' melter in the area. Never fails.
Sometimes, one tax fraud just isn't enough. The same people who brought us the R&D tax fraud at Green Jellyfish also promoted the entirely fictitious and fraudulent "GDPR tax relief"/"data security relief".
@Shayan86@hoaxeye "I can put any old tat in my sig, put quotes around it and attribute to someone of whom I've heard, to make it sound true."

INTERSTELLAR is one of my favorite films of all time. I was so disappointed when I thought the re-release was cancelled, but I am so beyond excited to be able to see this on a giant IMAX screen this December. It’s the best early Christmas gift.

@DanNeidle The PDF posted that was his response to the 2014 proposals: https://t.co/AJJgxL7qo9 (which I happened to download at the time - you can’t 404 those I’m afraid…)
@DanNeidle Oh Mr Venables KC - he’s always good for a laugh. I would try to dig out that PDF, that would give you a good giggle… https://t.co/ELQ6ZYRxLl
For a handful of tax KCs, tax avoidance isn't business, it's a political imperative. Here's Robert Venables KC saying it's a "patriotic" duty to avoid tax, because Labour is paying for "yet more state spending".
