I recently found this note to myself:
No sense in thinking small. Don't water down your vision. A remarkable amount can be accomplished if you are willing to think longer term than most and work hard each day.
I'm building a new team at @databricks AI Research and we're hiring.
We're focused on one of the hardest open problems in AI right now: how do you measure and continuously improve agents that operate on enterprise data at scale. We're looking for founding engineers to build the flywheel that turns evaluation results directly into better agents — from development and training all the way to production.
If you want to work on problems that actually matter at the frontier of AI research, I'd love to talk.

As an AI Engineer. Please learn:
- Harness engineering, not just prompt engineering
- Prompt caching vs. semantic caching tradeoffs
- KV cache management at scale
- Speculative decoding vs quantization
- Structured output failures & fallback chains
- Evals (LLM-as-judge + human evals)
- Cost attribution per feature, not just per model
- Agent guardrails & loop budgets
- LLM observability as a first-class discipline
- Model routing & graceful fallback logic
- Knowing when to fine-tune vs. in-context learning
If you really think you can do something special...
Then live like it.
Move in the world like you're on a mission.
Start doing things that support who you really are, instead of settling for the smaller life.

Comparing your salary to your colleague forgets to remember that we are all insignificant compared to the walls of Zion’s Narrows hike.
When you feel too big or too small, remember that we’re all monkeys on a wet rock moving tens of thousands of miles per hour through space and we never talk about it.
Instead of talking from the cosmic perspective, we succumb to negative emotions of envy and jealousy. We look at others highlight reel and wish we were them. We never see their entire life with all their pain and struggle though!
Never compare your entire life with a highlight reel, otherwise you’ll live your entire life unsatisfied with the beauty that the universe serves up on a daily basis!
