Food saved is as important as food produced, and both processes can be powered by renewable energy. This aligns with our commitment to enabling low-carbon economic growth in rural economies through the productive use of renewable energy.

At the Refrigerated Aggregation Center in Enugu State, Nigeria where we deployed two solar-powered Coldbox Stores to preserve fruits and vegetables produced by local farmers, we also implemented solar-powered irrigation for greenhouses and nearby open-field farms. These farms are used to train and enable local farmers to practice climate-smart agriculture.

We have commenced harvest and our farmers are earning from their efforts and benefiting from the sustainable infrastructure we have provided.

The progress we have made reinforces our commitment to continue boosting farmer productivity, preventing post-harvest loss and unlocking rural prosperity.

Here is a comprehensive showcase of the Aguobu Iwollo Refrigerated Aggregation Centre (RAC) by @manamuzelectric , which is part of the Coldbox Store Project. This cutting-edge facility exemplifies our dedication to innovative and integrated infrastructure for resilient agricultural production and consumption, located in Ezeagu Local Government, Enugu State.

The facility features:

1. State-of-the-art cold storage facilities comprising:
- A 5MT cold storage room with a pre-cooling function for fruits and vegetables.
- A 15MT cold storage room with the capacity to store 600 crates of fruits and vegetables a day.

2. Advanced greenhouses designed to optimize crop yields and promote climate-resilient agriculture, using 1500 grow bags to cultivate crops, with an estimated total harvest volume of 2250 kg (4960 lbs). This will be used for training farmers on year-round farming.

3. A well-equipped plant nursery, where quality seeds are first germinated and then transplanted to the greenhouses using advanced propagation techniques.

4. A state-of-the-art borehole component and overhead water tanks that supply irrigation to the entire facility and surrounding farm settlements, reducing water waste by up to 70%.

5. The facility is powered by a 34.83KW solar PV system, providing clean and renewable energy to power the cold rooms, greenhouses, and the entire facility.

6. A well-equipped office space with air conditioning and proper equipment, providing a comfortable and efficient working environment for staff and management.

This facility demonstrates Manamuz Electric's commitment to addressing food security challenges, supporting local farmers, and promoting climate-smart agriculture through the ongoing Coldbox Store project. 🌿🌍 We are grateful to announce the launch of an innovative Refrigerated Aggregation Centre in Enugu State, Nigeria! 🚀 This facility represents a significant advancement in preventing food loss and waste, empowering local farmers to boost productivity, and leading the way in Climate Smart Agriculture. With a capacity to serve over 1500 farmers annually in Enugu State, it operates solely on off-grid solar energy. ☀️

This achievement has been made possible through the generous support of the U.S. African Development Foundation (@USADF ),  and All On Partnerships for Energy Access (@AllOnEnergy), providing blended finance.  

Moreover, this facility proudly collaborates with a diverse array of partners, including the host community, farmers' cooperatives, state government institutions and agencies, related ministries, various agro-related businesses, and key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.
