I think it would be good if people were more comfortable being direct with new people even at the risk of coming off as cringe.
Aloof, oblivious confidence has won me so many amazing friends. Just go be goofsters.
@Arbeitologist reading is good but it's not the end goal. I'm a mathematician for example, and pedagogically everyone knows that learning requires exercises. You can very easily fall into a trap of false confidence in a subject if you never apply your knowledge to a problem.
@punishedmother My boyfriend (well they were expressing themselves femininely at the time) I met by just making friends with them at a weekly college dnd thing lmao. People really do tend to overthink things, especially redpill guys. There's no tricks, just be confident and genuine.
@bdawg6942069 To be fair, my argument is more detailed than ideal for twitter, which is why I linked an article explaining the effect on black familes and the connection to the carceral system.
For a philosophical treatment, I recommend Judith Butler's book Kinship Between Life and Death.
@bdawg6942069 I was pointing out the structural harm that comes with legislating heteronormative, racialized moral standards. I made it clear exactly where accountability lies. Marginalized people, like women and nonbinary people, are actually disproportionately harmed by these laws.
@bdawg6942069@YohannUzumaki@macaiyla@duicebiggs child support programs also disproportionately harm black families. If the goal of a society is to provide a better life for its citizens, then the burden of childcare needs to be shared by the state, not offloaded onto parents, especially custodial parents.
@bdawg6942069@YohannUzumaki@macaiyla@duicebiggs Child support in the us was created to subsidize the afdc, yes, that's true, but let's think about what that entails.

Turns out that replacing welfare programs with forced payments from noncustodial parents harms both the child and the parent.
@BadIdeaGuyJohn1@punishedmother It literally just looks at imaging and compares it to the patterns it's been statistically tuned to spot. It's not 100% accurate but it's very solid and provides insight on how to procede with a patient's care. It's one tool among many.
@BadIdeaGuyJohn1@punishedmother AI diagnosis tools (more accurately here would be machine learning or statistical learning btw) are correct more often than actual radiologists. Just statistically this is the case. The tool is just straight up good at what it does, which in this case is identifying lesions.
@JoshOShields@ScorpioDragon84 yeah lol same, I remember blowing back then too, but I just recently restored my setup to play smash 64 again. Also ocarina of time. I love those games lmao but they were so dusty that blowing wasn't doing anything.
@AmirYkabov@ScorpioDragon84 with the right conditions, yes, and depending on your concentration of alcohol.
A humid environment, restricted airflow, low concentration, more cleaning done/alcohol used, etc. all can contribute to a higher drying time.
30 minutes is a fairly safe upper bound
@TheJoshGill@barbarismcrit Emotionally though, yeah, the digust response is socially ingrained so we feel disgust when an old man dates a young woman (why is he doing this? what power does he hold?) because we share social narratives.
We simply don't have a social narrative around old women and young men.
@TheJoshGill@barbarismcrit it's functionally the same in a post-gender world, but we do kinda live in a world with patriarchal structures. Not to say the potential for abuse of power doesn't exist here, but the dynamic is structurally different; intellectually you can make a case for it being 'less bad'.
@barbarismcrit intellectually differently or like knee-jerk reaction? Because I also don't find this giving me as much of a disgust response, but I'm still aware of the potential abuse of power. It probably feels less creepy because there are less social narratives btw old women and young men.
@bdawg6942069@YohannUzumaki@macaiyla@duicebiggs However, if one makes it clear they do not want children, and someone else chooses (truly chooses, i.e. they had a viable alternative) to have a child, even if it is the result of shared intimacy, to require an individual to sacrifice their livelihood is cruel and unnecessary.
@bdawg6942069@YohannUzumaki@macaiyla@duicebiggs Also yeah, I recognize there's a patriarchal power structure here, but an individual's moral reaponsibilities end where their autonomy begins. The person getting the other pregnant is imo obligated to provide care to resolve the immediate conflict, i.e. the pregancy.
@bdawg6942069@YohannUzumaki@macaiyla@duicebiggs 2/2 The law weaponizes child support so the neoliberal state can privatize the cost of survival. Instead of offloading the cost onto individuals, society must collectively fund the universal childcare, healthcare, and infrastructure required to make all lives viable.
@bdawg6942069@YohannUzumaki@macaiyla@duicebiggs 1/2 Reducing human intimacy to a legal contract is a cruel illusion. Forcing lifelong kinship onto an unconsenting individual under the guise of "personal responsibility" is a form of state-sanctioned coercion designed to enforce traditional, heteronormative control.
@bdawg6942069@YohannUzumaki@macaiyla@duicebiggs is consent to sex also consent to raise a child?
if so, where does consent end?
if not, under what circumstances, if any, is it right to force someone to raise a child against their will?
I imagine responsibility plays a large role in how you think about these questions.
@IndustrialKevin@David_38325@VautismSpeaks Your question, "Why are those deaths morally acceptable while meat deaths are not?" misses the point, and feels like whataboutism tbh. We can prevent as much death/suffering as possible, and all available evidence points towards crops being much more sustainable and efficient.
@IndustrialKevin@David_38325@VautismSpeaks elsewhere you've written that compared to meat, "The problem is that calorie for calorie vegetables and grains kill far more animals." This is false, because meat requires the growing of vegetables and grains to feed livestock.
