A few years ago, there was an anime created by the same guy who made Cowboy Bebop, Space Dandy, etc.
It's called "Carole & Tuesday".
I didn't think much of it back then, but I want to rewatch it soon cause holy hell, "Ahead of its time" may be an understatement.
Trailer debut for “Allah Is Not Obliged,” a feature-length animated film that brings one of the most widely read and debated African novels of the past 25 years into animation.
Directed by Zaven Najjar, the 77-minute film adapts the 2000 novel by Ivorian writer Ahmadou Kourouma, which won the Prix Renaudot and the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens in France. The story follows Birahima, a Guinean boy who becomes a child soldier while moving across Liberia and Sierra Leone during the civil wars of the 1990s, searching for his aunt after the death of his mother.
Like the novel, the film is narrated in Birahima’s blunt, ironic voice. He describes war, death, and survival using the language of a child who constantly consults, and pushes back against, four different dictionaries. Traveling with a sorcerer, he becomes both a “grigriman” and a child soldier.
With voice performances by Aboubakar Hanta Christ Traoré (SK07), Thomas Ngijol, Marc Zinga, and Annabelle Lengronne, “Allah Is Not Obliged” premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025, the world’s most visible animation showcase, and stands out for its use of animation to confront issues that are rarely treated in this form.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release in France on March 4, 2026, distributed by BAC Films.

Anime, manga, and light novel titles said: what if the entire plot was the title?
An inquisition into stories with names longer than my attention span. As well as other weird title conventions 👀

Our environments aren't just backdrops. They're interactive sets. 💥
For Arcane Season 2, our BG Environment team built the entire world for the animation to use. They always ensure characters and environments connect, whether they're leaning, crashing, or just breathing.
I'm on the clock and I can't stop thinking how Asura, the Senju and the Uzumaki hid their imperialism behind "love" and robbed Ondra and the Uchiha of their real inheritance. (I'm also biased). Anyway @samchriskombo nitatuma draft kuwekea @coldtakegeeks soon.
It's not queerbait, and it's not yuri. The two women almost certainly love each other, yet can't envision a romantic future together because that framework doesn't exist for them
It's set in early-2000s Japan and it captures that era with unflinching honesty
