I do agree that the barriers to filmmaking are entirely too high, but this (AI Video) being fully accepted without the slightest hesitation of the long-term implications is just a dystopian rehash of the social media culture we already lost through the 2010s
I haven’t been on twitter much the last year & seeing this unhinged take confirms why that was the right choice.
Directing is more than a prompt, if the tech is executing it for you in my opinion you’re not really creating.
Prompting is a skill, but to replace real filmmaking
At the after party at a bar, a stranger walked up to me, asked if I was a filmmaker, then told me that he’d had a dream that we were going to meet and that I needed to move (I lived in TX) and that my work was destined to be seen by the masses. 😳
Communicating something outside of yourself is hard. It takes time and effort and self-reflection and wisdom and idiotic failures and false start and empathy and love and anger and, and, and. Then you have to marry that soup to craft, skill, expertise, opportunity.
Art is hard.
done. as a director currently getting *hammered* by the devaluation of our work in the commercial industry, i want to ensure that there is actually a meaningful way to make a living in film/tv when i finally get there. standing w/ the WGA on this one.
Again the AI blobs are objectively bad lol. But this is the WORST this will be and likely takes a huge step forward in 6-12 months.
We're lambasting this because its easy to point out the flaws now, but this could easily be a concept Pizza Hut could run with.

This is objectively bad lol. But we’re in the early public beta stage of this. As a concept, there’s a passable random September football beer commercial under the AI blobs that we see here.
