Indiana was the worst team in college football for 150 years and then they let teams start paying players and they immediately became No. 1 and the only conclusion to draw is they were the only ones who didn’t realize you could pay players under the table for the first 150 years
30yrs since #phish 11/19/94 Indiana University Auditorium (w/ Rev. Jeff Mosier) - their only @IUBloomington show. Post-show, the band and @revJeffMosier again jammed with fans in the lot outside the bus...captured by tapers.
Bill Walton talking about his Celtics teammates seeing the Grateful Dead for the first time. The joy he had talking about his favorite band is something we can all easily relate to.
There is a very targeted campaign to convince, if not bully, liberal Jews not to vote for Biden in the coming elections. Because the administration has placed a hold on some arms shipments if Israel goes into Rafah in a major operation. This has been generally seen as a betrayal of Israel.
Anyone not going along with this is labeled a traitor or kapo. I have even seen some well-meaning liberal Jews go along with this. But keep in mind that this argument is based on several fallacies. Let's unpack them:
1) The betrayal fallacy: It exaggerates what Biden is doing. He is not holding all his arms or stopping all operations. This refers only to specific bombs and a specific operation.
2) The only the latest thing matters fallacy: It places an obsessive fixation on one Biden policy, ignoring countless things he has done for Israel, like shoot down Iranian missiles, stand by Israel after October 7th, send carriers to deter Hezbollah, etc. Trump supporters do this every time Biden does something they disagree with.
3) this isn't a binary choice fallacy: People try to tell you not voting for Biden or Trump is an option as a signal. There are only two choices. One of them will be the President. It is your duty to choose between them.
4) The you must only vote on Israel fallacy: The criticism assumes that if you don't vote only on the Israel issue, you are a traitor. But as an American citizen it is your DUTY to think of what benefits America generally. Otherwise, you are not being loyal to your country. All liberals know that four more years of Trump means the Supreme Court will be conservative for decades. That democracy will be under threat. If you don't take that into account, you are being disloyal to the US and jeopardizing your own future.
5) The Biden is encouraging antisemitism fallacy: Biden has objectively done more to fight antisemitism than any other President. He created a commission no other administration has. Meanwhile, Trump said there were fine people in Charlottesville and had dinner with Fuentes. This matters, too. Not everything is about Israel. Meanwhile, the protestors HATE Biden and are protesting against him. This is something people are trying to make you forget.
6) You are not allowed to care about other vulnerable minorities fallacy: We want people to rally to our side when there is antisemitism. Many people have. But that requires that we help others, too. Some of our people of color allies are seeing how quickly we are happy to throw them under the bus because of an arms shipment and are in shock. It is the moral thing to do, to care about LGBTQ+, people of color, and immigrants. It is immoral to ONLY care about yourself.
7) Biden is not allowing Netanyahu to win fallacy: Netanyahu has had 7 months to win this war. He has shown no ability or willingness to finish this. It serves his purpose for this war to continue forever. Biden is sick of it. He has zero trust in Netanyahu conducting this war in a way that is good for Israel or anyone but himself. Can you blame him?
8) The Trump is better for Israel fallacy: The entire architecture Trump set up in the Middle East has collapsed. It was in the world he created, with no Iran deal and Abrahamic accords that ignored Iran and the Palestinians that October 7th happened. He is terrible at foreign policy. And we all know how transactional he is. Willing to drop allies for money, personal interests and political advantage. He also betrayed Israeli secrets to the Russians in a meeting, probably out of pure idiocy. His statements towards Israel have been anything but supportive throughout this war.
In order to make the argument that you, as a liberal Jew, need to stop voting for Biden, you have to accept all these lies and fallacies. Trump does not represent us. Trump hates liberal Jews and has viciously attacked us on numerous occasions.
When the Supreme Court has gone, women's reproductive rights have gone, and Trump refused to ever leave the White House when we have a convicted criminal as President, you will wonder why delaying an arms shipment to Israel mattered more than the future of the United States.
