Simple Persuasive Copy Tip - Don’t just show prospects why your solution is good. Tell them why the previous solutions weren’t good enough and necessitated your innovation.
“This problem is already solved, why are you solving it again?” Answer that. And it can be cheaper, better, faster, fewer side effects, no negatives, simpler execution, cooler colors, etc. literally anything.
This creates a thing I love to use in all persuasive work - a push/pull simultaneously directing the prospect where you want them to move. Something to move toward (certainty) and something to move away from (uncertainty).
Simple Persuasive Copy Tip - People fear uncertainty. So proactively pre-answer all possible questions about your offer... But also ask lingering unanswered questions about the alternatives - including the consequences of not buying.
Simple Persuasive Copy Tip - If you’re stuck on how to start, write down a brief summary of what you’re trying to get the reader to do, and then work backwards. Why should they want to do that? What’s in it for them?
When you use this method, the “stuff” you are selling doesn’t have to be grand or dazzling - it simply has to be something the other guy is using that your prospect didn’t know about.
Simple Persuasive Copy Tip - The most tantalizing thing imaginable is believing someone else knows a secret you don’t, which is giving them an unfair advantage over you. Do you want to know the secret?
The allure is not in the value it contains, but the value that other people allegedly place in it, which the prospect has failed to do to their detriment.
Augment it, amplify it, accelerate it - but if your bonuses always outstrip your main offer, people will begin to doubt your claims because you always seem to have to “bribe” them to accept something that must not be all that good by itself.
Simple Persuasive Copy Tip - Use copy to make the prospect desire the primary offer as it is. THEN offer a bonus for acting right now. Otherwise it can reek of desperation and damage the perceived value of the main offer.
The bonus should help turn a “maybe” into a “hell yes, right now!” But it should never be used to turn a “no” into a “maybe” - it’s a bonus, and its perceived value should never eclipse the main offer.
People are quick to dismiss reading an advertisement, even if they know they are interested - and they allow themselves the excuse of not having the time. Don’t let them.
Simple Persuasive Copy Tip - prompt your recipient to make the time to consume your message by offsetting what you need against their entire BETTER future after hearing what you have to say.
An exaggerated example might be, “Give me 2 minutes, and we might be able to improve your outcomes by this afternoon, and enjoy those benefits forever!”
This post is an example. People maybe do want to read your dumb crap. But they’re skimming, scrolling, seeing the same thing again and again.
So present the opposite. Zag to all other zigs. Then once they are reading, deliver something they will like… and want more of.
Simple Persuasive Copy Tip - FACT: No one wants to read your dumb crap! Presume you will have to shock them into doing so. Their trance has to first be dispelled with something unexpected.
