"Bad Soldier, Started Well, Ended Badly".

#Putin is no longer what he used to be. Figuratively speaking, he is finished. When faced with danger, he vanished completely. All of his army commanders, security forces, law enforcement ministers and chiefs — #Shoigu, Patrushev, Naryshkin, Bortnikov — they all hid and remained silent. #Prigozhin could have reached Moscow without encountering any resistance, and those who were supposed to oppose him on the outskirts of Moscow would have simply surrendered because there was no one to lead them.

Prigozhin appears to have been defeated, but it wasn't Putin who defeated him. These days brought disgrace upon Putin personally. He disappeared. In the minds of the people, his reputation has been shattered, and his cowardly behavior cannot be erased from the public consciousness. Everyone could see that the "king" was naked and ridiculous. He could be called a "foolish old man," yet he did not respond, remaining silent and enduring it. Later, after delivering an incoherent speech about a rebellion, he disavowed it.

It wasn't just Putin's personal shame; it was a disgrace for the entire system. The army's helplessness, the National Guard surrendering cities without a fight, elite planes flying away, even with top government officials, and the complete confusion of propaganda. It turns out that bravery in confronting grandmothers and girls is replaced by cowardice and helplessness when facing a serious opponent.

Prigozhin has also come to an end. It reminds me of a scene from a Soviet movie about the Civil War of 1918: "Bad soldier, starts well but ends badly. Hang him!" When his military formation is disarmed, all the guarantees and promises of sending him to #Belarus, Africa, or elsewhere will amount to a few bullets or poison, which is closer to the current Kremlin residents. It may not happen immediately, but it is inevitable. It will be a revenge for the fear and for exposing Putin's weakness.

The entire system has been discredited to its core. Putin spent too much time meticulously engaging in negative selection, appointing incompetent people to key government positions. And what Prigozhin said about Shoigu and Gerasimov, their complete lack of professionalism, turned out to be true. Among the 700,000 people in the army, there were no combat units capable of resisting the 20,000 Wagner mercenaries.

But the most significant issue is that no one within the Putin system could effectively communicate with the people. There was no one who could come to the people without security and say, "My dear fellow Russians, my dear friends, a disaster has struck, criminals are coming to rob us, let's build barricades, defend ourselves, and I will stand with you until the end." Neither prime minister Mishustin, nor Moscow mayor Sobyanin, nor Patrushev, Naryshkin, Zolotov, or Shoigu could step forward and say, "Let's act together, I am with you." Only unfamiliar and unknown individuals emerged to address the people, and everyone laughed at them wholeheartedly. It seemed as nobody was governing the country.

I believe the war will come to an end soon. The Russian authorities are completely demoralized. They are unable to declare mobilization anymore. Desertion and mass surrenders may commence soon. Furthermore, Prigozhin's march towards Moscow has seriously disrupted the logistical support and supply chains for the Russian army. The Ukrainians may soon be able to break through the crumbling Russian defense.

There will be serious consequences for Putin's regime. Prigozhin has exposed the entire system in a comical light. Fear of Putin will rapidly decrease, and by the end of the year, when the presidential campaign is launched, there will be bold individuals who will challenge him. The start for such people will be much easier than it was for me, Viktor Babariko, and Sergei Tikhanovsky when we challenged the dictatorial regime in Belarus, which system seemed solid and unbreakable at that time.

One important lesson from yesterday is that all supporters of Russia are VERY flexible with their beliefs.

- Both sides insisted the other was an extreme threat to the very existence of russia yet very few people actually picked a side, preferring to just wait and see whoever triumphed in order to believe whichever narrative becomes official.

- Both sides insisted they would be totally uncompromising in punishing their opponents, right up to the moment they compromised and went away, leaving russian propagandists to explain why the whole mutiny thing really wasn’t such a big deal.

- Then there’s the tech bro vatniks like Musk and his friends who are happy to conclude the whole thing was all about them and just another show (or “current thing”) somehow organised to distract from some petty US political squabble that’s somehow the real news story in their bubble.

- Oh, and remember we were supposed to believe that you must never corner Putin. That reputation of what he does when cornered was carefully crafted over decades using some childhood story about Putin encountering a cornered rat. Apparently, the rat must have fled to a bunker before issuing compromises too if Putin did actually learn anything from it.

None of this should be surprising as these are all the same people who:

- Insisted the full scale invasion was a crazy western conspiracy theory before then justifying it.

- Insisted every new type of weapons delivery to Ukraine was an escalation that crosses a red line before claiming the delivered weapons won’t change anything.

- Insisted occupied territory would be “russia forever” before justifying tactical regroupings and goodwill gestures.

This isn’t just about this war. Russia consistently lies itself into aggression where it senses weakness and lies itself out of aggression when it encounters strength.

So - the lesson for the world - is to stop talking about the need to avoid humiliating russia. It has no shame. If you feed its aggression, it will explain why it’s even more aggrieved. If you stand up to it, it will explain itself why it’s totally not humiliated at all while backing down.
