After hearing about our response to the protests in Liverpool, one of the people who attended the "save our children" rally reached out to me and asked if I would join him for a coffee. I obliged, of course. He reassured me that he and his people were there out of genuine concern, and not for violence and hate

As I've been saying all along, I knew there were people on "the other side" who were sincere and genuine.

After the coffee, he invited me for a discussion with several other people who are seen as grass-roots influencers here in Liverpool.

We had a 90-minute discussion about the Southport tragedy, the riots, immigration, racism, the psychology of hate, and media narratives.

By the end of the discussion, we didn't agree on absolutely everything... which is fine. But we did reach a consensus that it feels like we're being pitted against each other by forces out there.

Our dialogue is now continuing, and I have a feeling there are great things to come.

If you see and understand the fundamentals Maresca is bedding-in, you will be happy and relaxed.

These defensive issues we are having now are from habit, poor fitness and personnel. But the fundamentals is really good.

- The narrow buildup shape looks good.
- The passing pattern looks good. It's quick not passive.

- The attacking patterns and switches are taking shape, even though the precision in execution isn't there yet. We have opened up City and Real Madrid with ease and created chances. These fundamentals are solid to build on.

Off the ball is the biggest issue at the moment and I attribute that to lack of fitness, and CBs not yet in sync or understand when to drop and stay high, which I think will be sorted with time. For those making errors, once the league starts, I don't think Maresca will carry liabilities.

The only worry I have is the M2M press. We need everyone in top physical shape, and aggressive to make it work. Man-marking doesn't carry liabilities, if one breaks down, the rest have little chance of holding. Also, against big teams with top technicians who can easily beat a tight press, it's hard to make it efficient.

However, I believe if it's not working Maresca can go with hybrid and mix it up but I don't expect him to discard M2M press completely.

It has its benefits. There are less technical players who can handle intense press without making mistakes in the Premier League than high level technical players who can beat intense press. That means, it's likely to work better against lesser oppositions. We just have to adapt against big teams.

In all, I see the blue print and I like it. It's about working every day to correct mistakes and improve physically until everything comes together.

But I'm excited and you should be too. Forget about the preseason results, what matters is where we are heading to and I LOVE it.
