We were so excited and happy to join Augusta Onyeka (PhD student at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) in New Orleans at the Society of Historical Archeology conference, as she presented a paper on our collaboration with her as she works towards her dissertation.
I know I don’t post much anymore these days, but for this….Anthony was able to land his dream job while he is at NCAT writing article about anime!!!! His first article was published today! Enjoy!

It was an adventure getting there! We made it 15 minutes before the presentation was to start, but it was a pleasure being there. Thanks to all who came out giving us a few folks shy of a full house! And thank you for all the engagement!
Real question, not an underhanded comment: Since they are one of the few countries that was not colonized, is Japan’s innovation and “living in the future” a real world example of what was lost with European colonization interrupting and destroying societies?
I’m making a thread on the various cultures throughout the US since there seems to be a lot of xenophobia and dismissal of bipoc groups in the US. Non Americans see us all as one white country with the same way of life or something and it’s annoying so … here we are (🧵):
This one was for Remington, Greenmount, North & Asquith, Alameda, Liberty Rd, Mondawmin, Edmondson, Moravia, Cold Spring, Park Heights and all the other places where I spent so much time.. for those who we lost along the way

Juneteenth at Solitude-Fraction at Virginia Tech today.
We often assume that our ancestor’s expectations of freedom post emancipation would be a western version, so we were happy to have Augusta to present what freedom would have meant to people of the Igbo culture and lineage
Join us on Saturday June 15th at Solitude-Fraction at Virginia Tech. We will be honoring the names of those enslaved, discuss what the expectation of “freedom” may have been based on their Igbo (West African) heritage, & stay for Story Time part 2
Proud to sponsor this Juneteenth event in Baltimore! This year we are supporting 2 Juneteenth representing 2 “landings” where enslaved (Solitude/Smithfield) & one of places after emancipation (Baltimore)
(More details on Solitude/Smithfield event to come)
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Story Time event at Smithfield
We hope you join us for part 2 at Solitude/Fraction on Saturday June 15th for Juneteenth. We’re planning on something unconventional
More details to come!
Note: thanks to Laura Wedin for the pictures!
Anthony made the Deans list at North Carolina A&T University. Ended his freshman year strong. Very rarely do I see him proud of himself but I noticed he was about this so…. Congratulations Anthony!
I need someone to understand how hard it’s been to concentrate at work today in these VERY serious meetings with these VERY important people talking about VERY important subjects and laws with “BBL Drizzy” playing in a constant loop in my head
A nun, an astrophysicist, and a historian walk into a room…. That’s not the beginning of a joke, it’s how my day started… add to that everyone having to push my car that was stuck in the mud, to searching through the woods for the conservationist
that was surveying a plot of land, to me realizing I was in the back woods of deep back wood Virginia so I started staring at people and making them uncomfortable because I started sizing people up developing the technique in my head by which I was kick all of their *bleep*
