Resident Evil 4 released on PS2 21 years ago today.
The PS2 version brought Leon's fight against Los Illuminados to PlayStation, along with Ada Wong's Separate Ways campaign and new costumes.
That village opening is still one of the most memorable parts of the game. GOATED
“Daydream Believer” was originally slated to be the B-side of a Michael Nesmith-led single built around “Love Is Only Sleeping,” but a last-minute issue involving the European masters led to the song being promoted to the A-side instead. Released in 1967, it became a huge hit, spending four weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (The Monkees’ last American chart-topper) and later reaching #5 on the UK Singles Chart.
Included on The Birds, The Bees & the Monkees (1968), the track is often noted as one of the few recordings from that era to feature all four Monkees together, at a time when the group was increasingly splintering in the studio.
“My Immortal” is from Evanescence’s 2003 debut album Fallen. Written by Amy Lee and Ben Moody, the song exists in two well-known official versions. The original album track is the more stripped-back recording, built around piano and strings. The later “band version,” released as the single, adds guitar, drums and bass after the bridge and features a fuller string arrangement by David Campbell. Later pressings of Fallen include the band version as a hidden track.
Released in December 2003, it reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart. It also topped the charts in Canada, Greece and Portugal, and has been certified platinum in several countries. The track earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and is frequently praised for Lee’s vulnerable vocal performance.
“She Drives Me Crazy” was a massive 1989 hit from Fine Young Cannibals’ album The Raw & the Cooked. The funky, upbeat track is instantly recognizable for its distinctive horn riff, Roland Gift’s cool vocals, and its unusual snare sound created by producer David Z with a heavily treated drum sample that gave the song its sharp, metallic punch.
It topped the Billboard Hot 100 and helped the band cross over from alternative to mainstream pop success in the late ’80s.
“Leave a Light On” has an unexpected guest: George Harrison played the song's distinctive slide-guitar part. Belinda Carlisle suggested his name to producer Rick Nowels when they were looking for a guitarist with a unique sound, and Harrison quickly agreed to participate. He went on to contribute not only to “Leave a Light On” but also to another track on Carlisle's 1989 album Runaway Horses, “Deep Deep Ocean.”
“Would?” was written by Jerry Cantrell for Alice in Chains’ 1992 album Dirt. It first appeared on the soundtrack to Cameron Crowe’s film Singles, in which the band made a cameo as a bar band. Cantrell wrote it as a tribute to his friend Andrew Wood, the Mother Love Bone singer who passed away in 1990.
Released to US radio in June 1992, it reached No. 31 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. In the UK it peaked at No. 19, the band’s highest position there at the time. The track has stayed in regular rotation ever since, and in 2019 a trailer for the second season of The Punisher sent it back onto Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart at No. 15.
So happy we finally made it to rank 10🥺let’s keep this position, stay strong, and keep supporting each other! don’t give up now, guys, let’s keep pushing and aim even higher together🫶🏻🔥
