When you spend an entire day breathing in death, listening to pain, and staring at fear at the @UgandaCancerIns , you can't help but be grateful for people like Jessica Nyakairu.

Her job is not glamorous. It probably pays less than many of us complain about. But I envied her. I was challenged by her attitude. I was encouraged by her faith.

Jessica is stationed at the shed opposite Mwanamugimu and is the person you hand the lab request to for logging before heading to the lab with the samples. Yesterday I watched her cheerfully engage with ALL patients who were there, regardless of what they looked like. It was not just her smile and warmth. It was the fact she genuinely was interested in everyone there.

I overheard her encourage someone that it would be well, ask a patient how they were feeling (she had probably seen them several times), and apologize for taking a few seconds away from the desk to get something for a patient.

I gave her flowers in between sobs as she walked me to the lab when I asked where it was. This was right after she apologized to some waiting patients over needing to step away briefly. En route she asked an intern how she was doing in her first week.

My encounter with Jessica was overwhelming. I asked her how she managed to be that way in the midst of it all. Her response: "It’s the love of Jesus!" That was right before the dam holding back my tears, up until that point broke loose. All I could say was, “Thank you for being the light in such a dark cold world. God bless you!

As I head back today, I hope I will see Jessica 🙏.

Dear Son, 21 years ago today, I held you in my arms for the first time.
I was still a young man myself and I remember feeling both anxious and deeply blessed. I did not have all the answers, but I knew one thing for sure; I wanted your life to be different from mine.
I wanted you to be spared the life struggles I had gone through.

Like King Solomon in the Bible, I turned to God and asked for wisdom. That is why I named you Solomon. That name was my prayer for you from the very beginning, it still is!

I had already tasted fame and some level of success, but I understood that neither of them could give a man what only God can give-wisdom.
I have always prayed that God grants you wisdom, discernment, courage, humility and a heart that knows what is right, even when the world tells you otherwise.

Today, I look at the man you have grown into and my heart is filled with gratitude. I am proud of you and I pray that you continue Walk humbly with your God, love mercy, and do justly (Micah 6:8).

As you step into the next chapter of your life, I dedicate you once again to God. May He guide your steps, protect you from the things you cannot see, give you strength when life becomes difficult, and give you the wisdom to navigate this unpredictable journey called life.

May the blessings of your ancestors walk with you and make your life a blessing to many. May your purpse be bigger than yourself.

Always carry yourself with confidence and be proud of who you are. Respect everyone, regardless of who they are, but fear no one except God.
Treat everyone the way you would like to be treated and never be afraid to stand for what is right.

Whenever life becomes confusing, remember the prayer that has followed you since the day you were born.
May God give you wisdom greater than wealth, character greater than fame, and courage greater than fear.

You were named Solomon because, from the very beginning, I prayed that your greatest treasure would not be what the world can give you, but the wisdom that comes from God.

May you be wise enough to know the truth, humble enough to follow it, and courageous enough to walk it.

As members of the medical community, we reject this new internship policy. Interns run our hospitals, working 36hour shifts (which shouldn't even be something to be proud of) during the day, nights, emergencies, surgeries, maternity wards etc. Doing that for free is unacceptable and is inhumane. A medical intern is a doctor in apprenticeship, not free labour. Restore the monthly allowance at UGX 4,000,000 now, and engage intern representatives fairly.

RE: CONDUCT OF MINISTERIAL INSPECTIONS AT PUBLIC HEALTH FACILITIES

The Uganda Medical Association (U.M.A.) acknowledges your Ministry’s commitment to rooting out corruption, absenteeism, and service delivery failures in local government. We share your goal of accountability.

𝗛𝗼𝘄𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿, we are deeply concerned about the 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀 employed during recent inspections of health facilities; specifically, the presence of television cameras in clinical areas, the public interrogation of health workers, and arrests ordered before allegations have been properly investigated.

𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀. Filming patients in wards, maternity units, and consultation rooms without informed consent violates the Patients' Rights and Responsibilities Charter, the Data Protection and Privacy Act, and Article 27 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to privacy. 𝗔 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗶𝘀𝗺. Finding a health worker away from their station proves nothing without first verifying the duty roster, leave records, night-duty history, and on-call arrangements. Compensatory rest after night duty, annual leave, and sick leave are lawful entitlements under the Employment Act and Article 40 of the Constitution. Accusations of absenteeism must follow verification, not precede it.

𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀. Uganda’s public facilities are staffed at roughly a third of established need—34% against Ministry of Health norms, with diagnostic services at 47.7% and medicine availability at 58.9%. Where a worker refers a patient due to a stock-out or missing test, that is a systemic failure, not corruption. The two must be distinguished.

𝗗𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹. Articles 28 and 42 of the Constitution guarantee the presumption of innocence and a fair hearing. Arrests and public humiliation cannot substitute for proper investigation through established @PoliceUg, public-service, and professional-regulatory channels.

U.M.A therefore recommends that;

- 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀!!!

- @GovUganda fixes the system and funds recruitment and supplies.

- Humiliation Health Workers stops immediately.

- @MoLGUganda either leaves health facility inspections to @MinofHealthUG and it's organs or requests their active involvement.

𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.
