I interviewed Charlie multiple times. I often pressed him on his statements and views. He was always willing to engage, and always cordial even after tough back-and-forth.
Having witnessed what political violence looks like first hand in Butler, PA last summer, all I can do is feel the breaking of my heart for the state of our nation.
I was born in Ukraine not long after the breakup of the USSR. Among the greatest promises of coming to America was the right to free expression. That is not a promise most nations can keep. I hope the United States can. But that hope is fragile right now.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson asks for prayer for Charlie Kirk and his family, and says:
“Political violence must be called out… We need everyone who has a platform to say this loudly and clearly: we can settle disagreements and disputes in a civil manner.”
Holy s***. This is a moment to put all past political disagreements aside. Pull through, Charlie Kirk. A whole bunch of us are praying and thinking of you right now.
Scott Hanson confirms NFL RedZone will have commercials in some capacity this season — which is something he has no control over.
The intro will be: “7 hours of RedZone Football start now.”

Whatever politician can figure out how to fix this will cement a legacy. Until then we'll keep having "change" elections to kick the bums out.

As I look at 2028 hopefuls I'll continue to point out that nostalgia for Obama’s speeches is a trap. From where I sit now, the country is exhausted by vibes. People want proactive governing—leaders who act first, explain later, and deliver results.
Saturday musings-
From the outside looking in: Obama perfected the art of rhetoric. But beyond the ACA, action was thin. Even cap-and-trade—a real shot at structural change—died on his watch. Financial reforms? Only forced by crisis. Dems learned to prize words over results.
Broadly speaking the “abundance agenda” isn’t a silver bullet. But at least it’s about doing: building housing, lowering costs, expanding opportunity. Even an imperfect agenda rooted in results is better than endless comms debates like the Third Way memo.
It's a shame people describe everything Trump does as "banana republic," because firing the BLS commissioner because you're mad about the jobs report really is banana republic stuff.
Getting mad at the statistics agencies when the stats are negative is what they do in China.
Yes.
Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking.
Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.
