Peter Obi is a very dull person. I believe he should have used this situation to his advantage.
When his car got clamped at the airport for wrongful parking, he should have just paid the ₦25,000 fine and said see, even as a former governor, I was fined, and I paid. That's the exact culture of respect for rule of law he wants Nigeria to build.
But instead, Peter Obi is a lawless man himself. You break a rule, you get fined ₦25,000. Instead of paying, he called the airport manager directly, used his influence to get the car released, and then went to the media crying persecution.
A few days ago, Peter Obi told Chude that his car was clamped at an airport, that his acquaintances would not greet him in public, and that people were disinviting him from weddings. He presented these as evidence that this government may kill him if given the opportunity.
The Minister of Aviation has now reviewed the CCTV footage and released a detailed timeline with attachments.
The facts: Obi's police driver parked in a drop-off zone, left the vehicle unattended for approximately 30 minutes while going in and out of the terminal. The vehicle was clamped in accordance with standard airport security protocol. Nobody knew or cared that it was Peter Obi's car. When the driver discovered the clamp, Obi called the airport manager himself, introduced himself, peddled his influence and got the vehicle released without paying the N25,000 fine.
So the full picture is: his driver broke the rules, airport staff did their jobs, Obi used his name to get the fine waived, and then went on national television to describe it as government persecution.
This is the same man who says he might not be alive to contest 2027. The evidence he offered for that claim was this airport incident, people publicly avoiding him, and wedding uninvitations.
He used his influence to escape a N25,000 fine that any ordinary Nigerian would have paid without complaint. Then called it oppression on Channels TV.
My Precious.
