🚨THE VOTES ARE IN🚨
We’ve won our election at the NLRB by a vote of 55-3.
Our newsroom overwhelmingly voted to form this union after more than a year of organizing.
We’re eager to get to the table with Daily News and Tribune management.
Inspired by news of @BAmazonUnion & other workers across the US organizing for just treatment & fair compensation? Want to learn how to do it in Higher Ed? @UAPhilly is here to help YOU make it happen at your institution! Check out our upcoming events, DM's are open! #UnionStrong
Full-time and Part-time faculty at @uarts educate the next generation of artists. We built a #uartsunion together to provide stability for ourselves & our students. It's time for prez @davidyager to stop stalling & give us bargaining dates NOW. #UArtsContractNOW@AFTunion#1u
CPS has promised to lock me out from accessing my work account (google classroom, gmail, etc.) if I don’t go into an unsafe work building tomorrow. CPS will choose to prevent me from seeing my scholars and doing my job if I don’t go into an unsafe work building tomorrow.
Feel compelled to announce that my students' work was quite mediocre for the most part, my teaching was uneven, no one sent me thank-you notes or threw me a surprise Zoom party, there were no epiphanies, no revolutions. We survived to do it again in a month. 🙄
Just failed a record 9 students (in a class of 17).
Is this normal for #remoteteaching?
A lot of them just dropped off mid October, I'm interested to hear from other #highered folks.
In the mean time, I'll be bathing in shame and Whiskey.

We're Certified! It's completely official: UAP now represents contingent faculty at @UArts AND at @arcadia1853. Looking forward to our first #uartsunion meeting tonight & to hearing back from @davidyager to set dates for bargaining our #uartscontract in 2021! #1u@AFTunion
I get it. As a former freelancer and current #Adjunct, I get it. Flexibility assumes you have control over availability of work. In reality the boss has all the control. I hope we can wrest that control back regardless of #prop22#UnionStrong#Solidarity
Gig economy companies great claim is "flexibility". They used this term during prop 22 campaign & all adopted in recruiting.
Reality is there is no flexibility. I sit here in my car on @Shipt schedule ready to work an no orders are being assigned.
To show their DEEP appreciation for all my work during COVID, my Institution sent a note with instant coffee and chocolates... without proper postage.
Their appreciation cost me $2.60.
And I still can barely afford rent.

For anyone wondering how @DoorDash calculates their pretend high pay rate: they only count an hour if it's a FULL 60 minutes. So like tonight, I worked for 1:56 minutes, and they pretend my pay reflects 1 hour of work, not the 15$ per hour it's closer to:
WE WON!!! Full-time & Part-time faculty at @UArts have voted overwhelmingly in favor of unionization w/ @UAPhilly with a historic 99% win! We're so proud to be building Higher Ed union democracy in Philly with @aftunion! #1u#unionYES@PhillyAFLCIO@AFTHigherEd@AFTPA
