why aren’t the robots working in the mines and oil fields and handling toxic chemicals or picking plastic out of the ocean? why are they writing emails and making powerpoint presentations? what the hell are we doing
alien: hello earth, I am here to rule over you with an iron fist
me: ah sorry, our 'leaders' already do that
alien: well then I am going to strip your planet of its natural resources
me: you're not gonna believe this
#CaptainsMonth
The results are out!
You've decided the best ‘pacesetter’ ✨
The indomitable Imran Khan has emerged as the highest-rated captain, beating Virat Kohli, Meg Lanning, and AB de Villiers in the poll 🙌
Adding my support here to GC and the other former international captains. I hope the court ordered medical assessment be allowed to run its course, and that family visits continue. I hope Imran Khan is treated with the dignity anyone deserves
pakistani intelligentsia went from “he snorts cocaine, he won’t last a day in jail” to “why doesn’t he just do a deal with the army and leave prison”
You can’t make this shit up. 🤣
The period between 1994-1996 was a period of intense speculation about whether Imran Khan would join politics or not. It was a strange period, one day you’d hear he’d traveled back to England and some other day a digest or magazine would carry a piece about his desire to enter politics and uproot the prevailing system if injustice.
Those who were sensitive to how the rule of law was on a slow degrading path in Pakistan had already sensed what PMLN and PPP were all about.
Think about it: why would Imran Khan join the fray if everything was hunky dory. Things were already pretty bad. Lahore was a cesspool of sectarian gang violence, qabza mafia and corrupt bureaucrats. If you lived in any of the established posh areas of Lahore like Gulberg or
Model Town, you would know that things were no longer how they were in the 70s and 80s. PMLN had introduced a culture of thuggery all over the province. Every badmash was on its payroll.
Imran Khan joining politics was as if a weight had lifted off the shoulders of the select few who could sense the impending doom.
But we know how things turned out in the quagmire that’s Pakistani politics. People kept voting the traditional way and Imran Khan kept chiseling away at the system, never giving up, never losing hope. He took up issues like drone attacks in the tribal areas, that no one ever thought would be politically advantageous in urban Punjab or Sindh.
In all this time PTI changed how politics was done, first thru novel use of Political rallies, Communication strategies and ultimately thru Social Media.
No one ever gives credit to PTI on how liberating that for ordinary Pakistanis, to be heard and partaking in politics like it was meant to be in the 21st century. This despite all the games and political machinations of the establishment which continues to ruin this great project to this day.
In any case Imran Khan’s struggle is a story of ultimate persistence. It’ll never be overshadowed and history may remember it as the only story that ever came out of Pakistan.
I don't think anyone in Pakistan's history has had this level of popularity that Imran Khan has right now. Even the smallest of his actions draw the attention of millions. This is something else.
