@Anita1dancer Since we focused on college-aged students, a limitation could be students who cannot legally drink, but like mentioned, we included house parties, going to restaurant, and seeing family and friends.
(1/10) With the COVID pandemic affecting every aspect of individuals' lives, we wanted to understand how socializing patterns have changed among college students. Our team gathered information from various sources to understand these patterns. #COMference297
@ISU_COMference A code book describes the contents, structure, and layout of a data collection. It breaks your data into smaller, more specific groups to help understand it better.
@ISU_COMference How often did you go out to the bars, restaurants, or parties on campus during this time?
How did you feel being in this environment during the pandemic?
How did you feel being around your friends during the pandemic and why?
@ISU_COMference Yes we focused on the most popular bars in the area, including Brewe-ha’s, Chaser’s, and Elroy’s. We felt that these bars are the most popular amongst ISU students and on social media.
@ISU_COMference Other areas were included. We talked about bars a lot since they are so popular for students to go to on weekends, but we also asked questions about students going to parties at peoples houses and socializing at home with friends.
@ISU_COMference The script had questions which we wanted our interviewees to answer. However, depending on their answers, we asked more in depth follow up questions.
@ISU_COMference We based it on this:
Huey, M., Yuhas, A., Steers, M.-L. N., & Young, C. M. (2021, April 28). Going out or Staying in: How the Covid-19 pandemic has Influenced college Students' drinking and socializing. Duquesne University Duquesne Scholarship Collection. https://t.co/sBqUzcgBmy.
(10/10) The data we were able to find through the codes revealed just how the pandemic affected socialization habits. A majority of subjects said that going out to the bar wasn't worth it in the long run. The pandemic changed social habits for college students. #COMference297
(9/10) For our thematic analysis, we coded specific data segments from existing research in order to see if there were any underlying themes based on the codes we created. For this, we examined both Instagram and Twitter posts. #COMference297
