Drawing heads in perspective can be a real... headache.

In fact, it's almost as hard to draw the human head in perspective as it is to draw the entire body! Isn't that crazy?

The reason it's so difficult to get it right is because of the head's complex anatomy, form and features - which all change and morph when it's presented at a foreshortened angle.

On top of that, we don't often observe heads from above or below. Most of the time we're eye level with any head we're looking at or talking to.

So we're simply less familiar with how the head looks on those more dynamic angles.

That's why I made drawing heads in perspective the focus of last night's class in the How to Draw Comics Academy.

We spent a whopping 4+ hours delving in depth on this topic as we learned how to simplify, visualize and represent the human head in 3D space, from multiple angles.

Not only did we learn a variety approaches for drawing the head in perspective, we also discussed the mechanics behind it...
