@haserb32 Good question. These scams are not a realistic reflection of how websites like Grindr actually operate, so people are feeling better because of a lie #COMM316

It is really interesting how Dean talks about the French word meme being used in place of the word "same." The purpose of most memes is to draw an image referring to a relatable topic or idea so it makes a lot of sense #COMM316

@Comm316Hoffmann I agree.. it also allowed viewers to realize how ridiculous the original commercial was #COMM316

While GLAAD uses gaiety as a way to critique images, I wonder if other LGBT members are okay with making a mockery of some offensive images #COMM316

[Carly O'Hern @comm316ohern]

I think it was unfair for GLAAD to cancel a show because they thought it was offensive without even talking to the producer of the tv shows/films first. It is a little discrediting to the organization #COMM316

Who is the brain behind the algorithm, and was he/she still employed after finding out that the algorithm was racist? #COMM316

[Carly O'Hern @comm316ohern]

It seems like the problem possibly could have been avoided if race was not a factor in the algorithm... they should have seen if it worked without adding pictures of the offenders #COMM316

Community- a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.. I don't think that a community necessarily has to be a social construct. It can just be a feeling #COMM316

Personally, I don't really see the connection between being transgendered and transabled. It is really hard to encourage ppl purposely restricting themselves when other ppl only dream of being abled #COMM316

[Carly O'Hern @comm316ohern]

@Comm316Hoffmann I agree.. I don't necessarily feel exploited while using social media.

It shocked me when the student said, "they get along better with their own people," because how can she think that isn't racist #COMM316

After the Anita Hill case, were there improvements made within the system that now look at race and gender together? #COMM316

[Carly O'Hern @comm316ohern]

When celebs post as "average people" it creates unrealistic expectations which could be unattainable for actual "regular people" #COMM316

[Carly O'Hern @comm316ohern]

I realized, in class, that we are the people who ultimately "make" these microcelebrities even if they have no particular talent #COMM316

[Carly O'Hern @comm316ohern]

@comm106doyle Interesting.. I see a lot more feminine touch than sitting posture #COMM316

If lower-income internet users have less representation online because of lack of access, how could we solve this problem? #COMM316

[Carly O'Hern @comm316ohern]

It was interesting to see the results from the poll in class and realizing that our consumption vastly outweighs our production #COMM316

[Carly O'Hern @comm316ohern]

From what I find online, women are only portrayed to be more "clever" than men if it has to do with them being crazy or obsessed #COMM316

[Carly O'Hern @comm316ohern]

Even if men and women are mocked equally online, the content to which they were mocked could not be of equal standards #COMM316

[Carly O'Hern @comm316ohern]

Interesting how in the article almost all of the comparisons are stated like, "Females' selfies more often..." #COMM316
