Providing medically tailored, home-delivered meals and nutrition services to neighbors living with critical illness in MA and RI. #FoodisMedicine

And on Wednesday, the House Ways and Means Committee voted 40-0 to advance a bipartisan bill creating a medically tailored meals pilot in Medicare. The evidence is moving policy. Reporting by @Priyanka_Dayal for @WBUR. #FoodIsMedicine

Our kitchen is on @NPR and @KFFHealthNews today. Two of our clients, Vanessa and Steve, share their stories, and the Nature Medicine study of our meals underpins the piece. https://t.co/krouRs6khk

As lead author Dariush Mozaffarian of Tufts put it in the piece, our meals save the healthcare system money, and most things in healthcare do not.

The numbers, in case you missed them in June. Nearly 2,000 Massachusetts patients who got our medically tailored meals had 31% fewer hospitalizations and 20% fewer ER visits. Heart disease patients used about $10,000 less in care over six months.

New in @thehill. CEO David Waters & Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian from @TuftsUniversity argue that public health programs must cover medically tailored meals, & urge Congress to pass the bipartisan MTM Medicare pilot. Read & share: https://t.co/EJd0qI8vvO

@WBUR The research shows the impact.

This story shows how it happens. Read via @WBUR: https://t.co/ojlRIauDar

Beyond the numbers, what does “food is medicine” actually look like? @WBUR goes inside Community Servings 👇

[Community Servings @communityserv]

@WBUR 8,000+ served across Massachusetts. 200,000+ could benefit. Expanding access means scaling what works.

New in @NatureMedicine.

The largest Medicaid study of medically tailored meals to date finds they essentially pay for themselves.

Nearly 2,000 patients. 31% fewer hospitalizations. 20% fewer ED visits. Savings offset 98% of the meals.

Medicaid showed what works. Medicare is next.

A bipartisan pilot in Congress, co-led by @RepMcGovern, would test the model nationally.

The evidence is here.

[Community Servings @communityserv]

The lesson is that rigor matters.

These meals met the Food is Medicine Coalition standard, designed by dietitians and built around each diagnosis.

Lower-quality meal programs should not expect to see these outcomes.

[Community Servings @communityserv]

Thank you, @RepMcGovern, for your ongoing support and for highlighting the power of food as medicine. 🙌

[Rep. Jim McGovern @RepMcGovern]

Food is medicine, and medically tailored meals save lives.

HUGE thank you to @communityserv for providing nutritious, scratch-cooked meals to people with chronic disease. My bill—the Medically Tailored Home-Delivered Meals Program Pilot Act—will expand access to those life saving meals & #EndHungerNow.

Did you know medical students are learning how to cook as part of their training?

For decades, we’ve seen how medically tailored meals and the power of food itself can support health — and now that work is being taught firsthand in our kitchen.

[Community Servings @communityserv]

With research showing reduced hospitalizations and lower healthcare costs, Food Is Medicine isn’t theoretical. It’s practical. And it works.

[Community Servings @communityserv]

Medically tailored meals are a powerful intervention proven to reduce hospitalizations and lower healthcare costs—yet they remain underutilized in most healthcare systems.
