HOW TO TRAIN LIKE A SERIOUS DESIGNER
1. Design every day (30–60 mins minimum)
Not motivation. Just routine.
2. Copy great designs first
You learn structure, spacing, and hierarchy faster.
3. Redesign real products
Banks, crypto apps, dashboards, landing pages.
4. Study UX thinking, not only visuals
Flows, problems, decisions, usability.
5. Track your progress weekly
One improvement every week = massive growth in 1 year.
Reality note:
Consistency for 6 months beats talent for 6 days.
@TheObiLeonard i wouldn’t use the word mentorship particularly because it goes deeper than that. there needs to be some form of apprenticeship and hand holding to properly shape a designer into a satisfactory level of competence espe in this part of the world where access is very limited
One of my greatest regrets in life was letting the teachers in my secondary school convince us that Art class was for dullards and science class for the smartest students. I was excellent at debates, loved words and really wanted to be lawyer but they wouldn’t let me.
They made that choice for me before I understood what it meant. I’m pretty sure this was a moment that altered the trajectory of the lives of so many Nigerian kids.
@Johnogaga4@thealisoneyo I’m interested, my current challenges lie in making my design both functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time also I really want to create my first few case studies for my first portfolio. Thanks
