In this profound teaching from Osa Meji, Orunmila reveals a truth that many seekers overlook. The verse begins with a question about the origin of the sacred moon-power, a power so fundamental that even Ifá itself depends upon it for its operation.

The Irunmole claimed ownership of this power.

Orunmila declined ownership.

When pressed to reveal its source, he pointed toward Iyáàmi Osoronga.

This declaration is one of the most important revelations in the corpus of Ifá.

The moon in this verse is not merely a celestial object. Esoterically, it symbolizes intuition, receptivity, gestation, mystery, fertility, creativity, transformation, and the hidden processes through which life unfolds. The moon does not generate light of its own, yet it reflects and distributes light throughout the night. In the same way, creation itself requires a medium through which potential becomes reality.

The verse teaches that this medium is represented by Iyáàmi.

Iyáàmi are not simply individuals, nor should they be reduced to the distorted images often created by fear and misunderstanding. At their highest esoteric level, Iyáàmi represent the primordial feminine principle embedded within existence itself. They embody the sacred power of generation, preservation, transformation, and manifestation.

Before anything can be born, there must be a womb.

Before a vision can become reality, there must be a space in which it can mature.

Before wisdom can transform a person, there must be an inner receptivity capable of receiving it.

This is the mystery represented by Iyáàmi.

The verse therefore teaches that even Ifá, the embodiment of Wisdom, Knowledge, and Understanding, depends upon a deeper creative matrix. Knowledge alone cannot create life. Wisdom alone cannot produce manifestation. There must first exist a generative force capable of bringing possibilities into form.

That force is symbolized by Iyáàmi.

This understanding also transforms how we view women.

The verse concludes:

"Let us kneel before women. It is woman who gave birth to us before we became human beings."

This is not a statement of weakness before women. It is a statement of profound recognition.

Every human being enters this world through a woman.

Every leader, priest, king, scholar, healer, prophet, and sage first lived within the body of a woman.

Before any title existed, there was a mother.

Before any achievement existed, there was a womb.

Before any spiritual attainment existed, there was a woman who made physical existence possible.

Osa Meji therefore calls humanity to recognize and honor the indispensable role of women in both the visible and invisible dimensions of life.

Yet the teaching goes even deeper.

The woman in this verse is not only the biological mother. She is also the symbol of the universal creative principle that nurtures life, sustains growth, protects continuity, and allows transformation to occur. Every act of creation contains this feminine principle.

When a teacher nurtures a student, the feminine principle is present.

When the earth nourishes a seed, the feminine principle is present.

When wisdom matures within consciousness, the feminine principle is present.

When a society preserves its culture across generations, the feminine principle is present.

This is why Orunmila directs attention to Iyáàmi rather than to himself. He is teaching humility before the source of manifestation itself.

Never mistake visible power for ultimate power.

Behind every achievement stands a hidden force that made it possible.

Behind every form stands a creative principle that brought it into being.

Behind every human life stands a woman.
