Leveraging a massive social media following on X and Instagram, Medina spent months blasting hyper-partisan rhetoric and attempting to translate internet notoriety into real political power. Long before his failed gubernatorial aspirations, he was a loud, uncompromised loyalist to the "Make America Great Again" movement—a devotion that ultimately earned him federal criminal charges as a January 6th insurrectionist.

On February 28, 2024, federal authorities arrested Medina in Portland, Oregon, dragging his history into the light and exposing his deep involvement in the violent assault on the U.S. Capitol. According to the Department of Justice, Medina was part of the lawless mob that illegally breached the building, standing face-to-face with law enforcement while trying to disrupt the certification of the 2020 election.

The specific criminal details of his case are brutal: federal prosecutors alleged that Medina personally engaged in disorderly conduct, obstructed an official proceeding, and committed property destruction by smashing a wooden "Speaker of the House" sign inside the Capitol building. His appetite for political extremism was well-documented, with investigators also linking him to a separate, chaotic forced entry at the Oregon State Capitol in December 2020.

Medina's political life was entirely dependent on his direct subservience to Donald Trump, a connection that allowed him to escape accountability for his crimes. Following Trump's return to power, Medina benefited from absolute political favoritism when Trump issued sweeping executive clemency on January 20, 2025, granting him a full presidential pardon that wiped away his federal felony and misdemeanor charges before he could face a jury.

Emboldened by this personal intervention, Medina launched his campaign for the May 19, 2026 Oregon Republican primary, shamelessly trying to use his history as a federally charged J6 rioter as a badge of honor. However, Oregon voters thoroughly rejected his extremism, handing him a humiliating defeat where he secured just 5.1% of the vote, ending his political delusions and knocking him completely out of the governor's race.
