This one’s for #EdPiskor

For over 5 years I’d start each day with a bowl of cereal and watching @jimruggart and Ed’s latest Cartoonist Kayfabe videos.

Their voices were a part of our household. Despite never meeting, I felt like I knew them. Their enthusiasm for comics was inspiring… the boys made me want to draw and, in their own words, read more comics. And I did.

Late last month (March 2024) I watched social media turn on Ed. I watched it all happen, probably closer than I should have. It was ugly and scary. The pace in which rumour becomes “fact” on social media gave me whiplash as hoards of anonymous users levelled judgment on someone they’ve never met. It was truly frightening to see.

And it ended in the worst way possible…

This is a complex topic and there are too many opinions flying around already, so I’ll spare you mine. I’ll just say I’m upset in a way I can’t really put into words. It’s all just very sad.

This drawing is my contribution to a tribute zine being put together by his friends. Figured I’d keep it light, and bring the subject back to what got me into Kayfabe in the first place… my love of Image Comics, namely Extreme. Shouts to @robertliefeld.

My heart and deepest condolences go out to Ed’s family, friends, colleagues and the wider comic scene in Pittsburgh. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Rest easy, Ed. 💔
