@rtenews very exercised about the dreadful state of Afghanistan...but very hard to see what West (or indeed East) countries can do or should bother doing to assist. Afghans have thrown out all and any country from Russia to USA who might be capable of helping.
My grandfather was a later owner of Lord Ed's house Fresacti in Blackrock, Co Dublin. And this is me outside that place some years back...in ruins...the house, not me.
2. Turns out that Mrs. Pare is the Hon. Geraldine Fitzgerald de Ros, dau. of Lord Henry Fitzgerald & niece of Lord Edward Fitzgerald. I only learned today that Lord Henry had a “romantic interlude” with Caroline, Princess of Wales/wife of George IV 😮. https://t.co/Y3jqR9pvJZ
@AidanMcCourt@trocaire In an ideal world Trocaire, Goal and Concern should amalgamate, this would drastically reduce overheads (ie excessive staffing admin payments) & increase efficiency. Charity doesn't work well as an 'industry' or 'sector', & certainly not as a career vehicle for virtue signallers
@jintygal31 Yes I've investigated Scottish Kennedys, they would be associated with N.Ireland Kennedys centred on Cultra, & that lot connected to the Wexford/Waterford families, however mine are Dalcassians from other part of Ireland. My Crighton man was an ancestor of mother's Conan family
My great great grandfather was a Scottish clockmaker from Glasgow, David Crighton...with others in his family being McFarlane and Prentice. So, och aye.
After waking up just a wee while ago, I thought that's a strange sound outside as a car drove past. Welcome to a proper Scottish winter in November & it's still snowing, just! If this is a sign of things to come, heaven help us! Silver linings? The ski resorts will be happy!
Wonderful pile of copies of ‘Malton’s Views of Dublin: The Story of a Georgian City’ here on the table of coffee table books at the mighty @Hodges_Figgis#Christmas#xmassorted for Georgian Dublin fans…. @littlemuseumdub
Good to connect online with @mickkellygrows this afternoon and the Grow it Yourself @giyireland crew. Michael we’ll have to get you up to our @InfirmaryGarden in Dublin one of these days!
Peculiar watching Ireland playing Japan in rugby today, A because my cousin Jack Conan is on the team and B, my just published book tells the story of Jack's great great uncle who died in a Japanese prison camp in WW2. But hey, don't mention the war?
@karenievers This is Henry Wilson Slater, of White Hill, Edgeworthstown, which was the 'other' big house in that town...now demolished...your contacts in those parts may be interested in him.
Photo arrives from Paris, my son who lives there, & my Dublin based niece, visiting him. Reminds me that we (and Arthur Conan Doyle) share ancestry from this Irish Parisian journalist. My grandfather went to school there, & mother to Sorbonne. Small world
