@allmovingparts_@birdmoder There may also be some mystical thing about expert illustrations being closer to human perception than a photo, but I am not sure about that. All I know is that good scientific illustration > photos 99% of the time.
@allmovingparts_@birdmoder So ironically, to me, the Sibley illustrations look *more* similar to what I'm trying to identify than a photo does in most cases.
@skwinnicki@foufoutosminix@inaturalist Nice! It's a cool find (sorry about the method of finding it lol). I have iNatted mosquitoes that bit me, so, solidarity
@foufoutosminix@skwinnicki@inaturalist Specifically the backlog gets really large over the Northern Hemisphere summer and then frequent IDers chip away at it over the winter.
it could also be possible that it's not really possible to ID this nymph(?) stage to species but idk much about assassin bugs.
@MtShastaWriter@GeauxGabrielle My insurance is ok, but I've had to pay out of pocket for specialty at times. I am sorry you are dealing with that. I hope improvements and expansions to Medicaid will help your family.
@MtShastaWriter@GeauxGabrielle I have fortunately not had this experience; instead, researchers have gone above and beyond to help me.
I didn't ask them for medical advice, just to point me to MDs qualified and knowledgeable about the disease. Then if the MD gets stuck they consult back w the researcher.
@jonac13@HannahPosted Brains are different and a sleep hygiene based curriculum I followed acknowledged that EXTENSIVELY and kept saying to break whatever "rules" are needed for good sleep including it's fine to sleep with the TV on! (I could never, but that's because brains are different!)
@jonac13@HannahPosted OP can't because no literature exists. The tweet would be completely fine if OP just says "I haven't found sleep hygiene practices to be helpful, personally, could be related to my ADHD?" why does everything have to be Objectively Harmful
@Jess_inthewild Ah I see, so it's not "taking the bird to the drive thru" it's "bird flu isn't real and it can't hurt me so I'll restrain this bird while sticking food in my mouth"
@Jess_inthewild No but I cannot think of a single reason to not just get your ice cream AFTER you drop off the bird unless you are literally slipping into a diabetic coma (& then why are you not carrying snacks & risking driving)
@Jess_inthewild When I have a highly distressed animal the main thing I want to do to help it is to extend its distress by using it for a photo op by dragging it thru a drive thru. (sarcasm)
@JCF4004@evornithology Not regardless. We don't know when and where the photo was taken. Many areas have legal hunting seasons for Canada Geese including my state.
@JanJoostBouwman@birdmoder The state bird (symbol) of Nevada is the Mountain Bluebird; it has never been the Himalayan Snowcock. These are "counted" in the US for birding purposes since they are a self-sustaining, long-term established population.
@jpbrammer This is probably not the right venue to say that since I've taught Mammalogy I have an entire slide deck on mammal teeth replacement patterns. Some mammals never replace (e.g. orcas) others can replace many times, conveyor-belt style (e.g. elephants)
@doctorsdilemma@EricTopol@NatureAging Exactly my thought, plus a socioeconomic effect where those who ARE still employed & active throughout the week are doing manual labor rather than a white collar job.
