The real problem is not the media regulatory bill. The real problems are
•The cost of living is too high.
•We face a USD shortage.
•Young people are stuck with
student loans of around 1 million MVR while earning only 18K on average, while a deputy minister takes home 35K.
In this situation, any criticism of the government is automatically seen as negative.
What does the media bill do?
It prevents people from spreading news without evidence. No one should spread rumors or half-truths on social media. Yes, this makes it harder for content creators and media outlets—but it also stops false stories.
Why are journalists complaining?
Because sensational, half-true news is what attracts readers. If media only reports ordinary news like accidents, people lose interest. Much of the attraction comes from using the media to attack government narratives—often funded by politicians. Without half-truths, many media outlets feel powerless.
Can politicians exploit this bill?
Yes. Corruption becomes harder to expose because it often happens without visible evidence. This gives politicians an advantage.
So what are the two big issues we face?
1.Corruption—we must find ways to reduce or stop it.
https://t.co/LkcMkkMTxg survival—outlets must find ways to operate without relying on sponsor money.
My argument is simple:
We cannot allow unproven stories just for the sake of “fighting corruption.” That will not end corruption—it will normalize lies, rumors, and insults.
The real solution is a God-fearing society. Only moral values can stop corruption, not endless criticism or spreading half-truths.
For you democracy is empowering pro LGBTQ MDN who even mocked the Friday sermon by calling it ‘hotbar’
fighting for radical liberalism, and supporting naive kids to change gender. Appointing MDN leadership in all top positions in the Presidents office and other top positions
“Ordinary people like us” she says.
But let’s be real. Was she ever ordinary?
She ruled as Defense Minister. She lived decades as an elite of Maldives. Her ex-husband milked the MIFCO scandal in the 80s–90s. Who benefited? Their household. Ordinary ppl cld never dream of that kind of money.
When caught, Maumoon didn’t punish her. He protected her. Ask yourself… wld an “ordinary” Maldivian be saved by a dictator?
Then she switched sides, joined MDP. Not bc of belief, bc that’s where the power went. Always on the winning team. Always eating. Ordinary ppl don’t get that luxury.
2018–2023. Again Defense Minister. That gov printed money like crazy. Borrowed endlessly. Today’s inflation, today’s debt crisis… it’s their legacy. And she was right there at the top.
Does she feel the pinch at the shops? At the pump? No. She’s sitting on decades of wealth made through corruption. Ordinary ppl are counting coins. She never has to.
Now she says “ordinary people like us.” This isn’t vague. It’s self-inclusion. She’s putting herself in the same line with the ppl she exploited.
It’s not humility. It’s manipulation. It’s pretence.
And it insults the intelligence of every Maldivian who knows the truth.
Ordinary people? No. She is not us. She never was. She never will be.
In the past 24 months, Mariya Didi has received almost 1 million MVR from us, for sitting at home.
MVR 28,125 per month (Majlis pension)
MVR 24,000 per year (health insurance)
MVR 723,000.00
“Ordinary citizens like us”
As the rule based international order continues to erode and great power rivalries intensify, the Maldives must tread carefully to preserve its hard earned independence.
In an increasingly militarised Indian Ocean, our seas and land must never be used by foreign military powers.
To be truly independent, we must also free ourselves from unsustainable debt and avoid excessive reliance on any single country for essential needs such as food, fuel, and medicine.
Our forefathers fought hard to secure our independence. It is now our duty to protect and uphold it, not just for today, but for the generations that will follow. The choices we make now will define the future of our nation.
Warm wishes on the occasion of the 60th Independence Day of the Maldives.
90% of the people living abroad are not students or patients — they’re Male’ landlords who’ve rented out their flats and moved overseas for a better life.
They enjoy full USD card limits with no penalties.
But those of us who stay, work, and contribute to this economy?
We’re punished with a 30% BML card fee for simply buying things online.
Why are policies always written to benefit the same privileged few — the Male’ landlords and elite resort owners and thier families— while the rest of us are left to suffer?
Why does the entire economy bend to serve their comfort, while working-class Maldivians get scraps?
After two decades, the fight ended with the loss of this man. In their efforts to defend this hooligan, MDP activists lied and defamed everyone who spoke out against him.
Everyone who keeps saying he lies about the Military Presence just listen for yourself. You dislike him because he defeated you.
So proud of you @axanner 👏🏾
Single handedly created a whole movement against Foreign Military Presence in Maldives.
2✅ for Hithadhoo Medhu
All the more reasons why we should believe that India is behind this attempt to impeach the president.
Keep dreaming, but it's not happening on our watch. #IndiaOut
The Indian Navy is allegedly searching a fishing vessel within the Maldives’ EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone). The boat (Asurumaa) from Adh. Mahibadhoo is undergoing inspection. The bullying continues. Shame.
