THE JOURNALIST WHO TOLD HIS OWN PAPER IT WAS DEFRAUDING ITS READERS
In February 2015, Peter Oborne @OborneTweets walked out of the Daily Telegraph @Telegraph. He resigned as a matter of conscience because his own newspaper was committing what he called a fraud on its readers.
The story the Telegraph did not want to tell was the @HSBC tax scandal. HSBC's Swiss banking arm had been systematically helping wealthy clients hide money from tax authorities on an industrial scale. Every other major paper ran it prominently. The Telegraph buried it.
Oborne went digging into why. What he found was that HSBC had suspended its advertising with the Telegraph back in 2013 after the paper ran an investigation into HSBC accounts in Jersey.
A former executive told him directly that HSBC was, and these are the words, the advertiser you literally cannot afford to offend.
The Telegraph's own chief executive, Murdoch MacLennan, apparently sat in a meeting with Oborne and openly conceded that advertising considerations could override editorial decisions ...
Oborne published everything on @openDemocracy and called for an independent external review. The Telegraph responded by calling his account astonishing, unfounded, and full of innuendo.
The paper that had just suppressed a major banking scandal to protect a major bank's feelings was very concerned about unfounded attacks on its reputation.
Here is what this case actually proves. When a bank can pause its advertising and watch a newspaper quietly drop the story, there is no free press, that is a sponsored press. The readers paying for a newspaper are the last people it is actually working for.
Oborne lost his job. HSBC kept its ad account. The Telegraph's billionaire owners, the Barclay Brothers, kept their arrangement intact.
And thousands of Telegraph readers had no idea any of it was happening, which was rather the point.

Kallas isn't Europe's diplomat. She's its loudest ideologue.
Never negotiated with Trump.
Never negotiated with Putin.
Never negotiated with Xi.
Yet her job is to coordinate a foreign policy that barely exists.
Europe isn't at the table. It's on the menu.
John Mearsheimer: I'm saying to all you folks in the audience is you wanna think like John F. Kennedy in this crisis, not like Joe Biden.
Kennedy understood we were talking back then about the threat of nuclear war, and Kennedy understood that you definitely wanted to do everything you can to avoid that.
🚨 For anyone tracking the under-16 social media bans in Canada and the UK, you might have noticed the government suddenly walking back some specific wording.
They backed off forcing you to upload credit cards or facial scans because of the public backlash, and now they’re pushing a "backend token system". It sounds less intrusive on the surface, but here is the truth about what that actually means, because most people are being completely misled by that marketing:
A cryptographic token isn't a magic, anonymous poker chip. To work, a token has to be anchored to something verified. That means your physical device, your phone carrier contract, or your real identity is permanently tethered to that token.
Every single time your phone throws that token to let you log into an app, it logs exactly who you are, where you are, and what you're doing.
It isn't a privacy shield to protect kids. It's a digital passport that tracks an adult's every move across the internet.
And they would have you believe this is some kind convergent policy evolution, rather than franchises of a global plan.
They are spouting mushroom heads connected by a vast subterranean fungus.
UNITED NON COMPLIANCE
Now is the time to mobilize, organize & fight back to make sure the Digital ID to go on social media for over 16s fails from day one.
Do not comply.
❗Russia has won a decade-long dispute with Ukraine over Crimea.
The International Arbitration Court in The Hague has put an end to the dispute between the countries over the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and the Kerch Strait. The result is a convincing victory for Moscow. Kiev demanded compensations, reparations, the dismantling of the Crimean Bridge, and access for military ships to the Kerch Strait. All of this was rejected, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Other statements:
▪️ Kiev's attempt to challenge Russia's sovereignty over Crimea and adjacent waters has failed.
▪️ The arbitration court denied Ukraine compensation and reparations for the use of natural resources in the waters of Crimea.
▪️ The Kerch Strait is not recognized internationally - military ships of other states will not enter it.
▪️ The demand to dismantle the Crimean Bridge was rejected as absurd and cynical.
▪️Accusations of environmental damage by Russia were also dismissed.
The Foreign Ministry stated that this decision is a "significant defeat for Ukraine and the West in the legal war they have waged against Russia".
The attack on me and @MoatsTV by the @BBC Panorama last night in the Curious Case of the Ukrainian Rent Boys, El Money and the Prime Minister places the detention under the Terrorism Act of my good wife @GayatriGalloway and I at Gatwick Airport in a new and sinister light…
To the idiots celebrating government controlling kids, you just agreed to adults having to hand over facial recognition, digital ID, passports and/or credit card details to prove you are not a child.
Your stupidity is immeasurable.
The rescue deal for a company that drove itself into £19bn of debt while paying out dividends would give investors fresh equity, exempt them from fines, load on more debt, and hand the bill to customers..
@UnityNewsNet Sopel is an Ambassador for the King's Trust what a coincidence...Phil Schofield also worked for the Prince's Trustrust and of course knew Savile.
They all knew Savile - question is did Savile meet Epstein at Balmoral?
Robert Maxwell & Elton knew Savile.
