This project and partnership between the Sisters of St. Joseph, the City of New Orleans, and FEMA can serve as a model for managing water in cities throughout the world.
As part of our ongoing commitment toward sustainability and environmental justice, the congregation offered 25 acres of land in New Orleans to be used for the Mirabeau Water Garden, a water management project.
Once complete, it will help to alleviate flooding in the surrounding area. During major rain events it will be able to hold up to 10 million gallons of storm water and when dry will serve as a park-like area.
