@ferologics ig my point was that it doesn't tell me the real harness tax from pi when it has all that user configuration/plugins. because i'm never running bare coding tasks ala swe-bench.
so yeah "meaningless tokens" degrade perf/increase costs, but i can't properly work without them
I've noticed that recent releases of claude assign less confidence to their previous messages, which wasn't the case with the 4.x series.
the 5.x series is saying things like "a precedent instance of [me] has said XYZ to the customer, which is inevitably false" bro that was you
quick idea: scale down universities if you want to keep human oversight at scale.
I believe people cheat when they don't believe learning the thing will serve them. proof is ai can do alr it for them!
the university was good for giving an average higher education to a lot of humans, we managed to scale things by running standardized exams, remotely and online, to an extend that imo the education lost its meaning sometimes.
you go to uni to meet other human beings, whether professors or fellow classmates, learning alongside them/from them. ai can't do that, and there is no need for "verification/exams" forcing people to doing it; two birds, one stone!
university laid out the infrastructure for nurturing our interests at scale discovering new things and failing hard, over and over again when stakes aren't high yet.
saying ai is ruining higher education is wrong, and it forgets the central part of the university which are NOT exams and are NOT courseworks. I don't use half the shit i learned nowadays, but i still remember the good moments while learning and still hangout with so many classmates.
Conservatives need to understand this.
AI is already ruining higher education. It's already been far more disruptive, toxic, and demotivating than wokeness & DEI ever were.
Academics can't assign homework, take-home problem sets, or term papers -- too many students will use AI to cheat.
We can't give assignments or run assessments in online courses -- too many students will use AI to cheat.
We can't be sure what percent of any honors thesis, masters thesis, or dissertation is really the student's own work. Likewise for grant applications, grad school applications, and journal papers.
Even worse, after AI-enabled 'smart glasses' with cameras and microphones become common and inconspicuous, we won't even be able to run in-class quizzes, tests, or discussions without worrying that students are secretly using their AIs to feed them answers and prompt their discussion questions.
Wokeness was a serious threat to the intellectual integrity and viewpoint diversity of universities.
But AI is a serious threat to the entire academic enterprise.
If you're a conservative and you care at all about classic education and the Western canon, you need to wake up to the real threat here -- students offloading all reading, writing, learning, and skill development to AIs.
