@TeamCooperNC@WhatleyNC You're highlighting the fact that we only got 15% of the federal funding we needed when you were the person responsible for requesting and disbursing said funds? Kind of a self own.
February 25, 2021: Roy Cooperโs administration settled with activist groups to fast-track at least 3,500 inmates. They told lawmakers crimes against persons would not be in the deal.
The reality did not live up to that promise. Reporting on the release roster found 53 serving life, 70 convicted of murder, 99 convicted of rape or a sexual offense, and 203 convicted of taking indecent liberties with a child.
Then came the return trip. North Carolinaโs Sentencing and Policy Advisory Commission sampled 1,180 of those releases: 48% were rearrested within two years โ 566 people โ higher than the 44% rate for ordinary 2021 prison releases. About 20% of that sample were convicted of new crimes. Broader reviews put more than 600 later charged with serious felonies, including homicide, sex offenses, and other violent crimes.
They promised no crimes against persons. The list had murderers, rapists, and child-sex convicts. Almost half of a state sample was back in cuffs in two years.
They promised no crimes against persons. So how did 70 convicted murderers and 203 child-sex offenders make the list?
