Section 24 of the Cybercrimes Act criminalises online content that causes “annoyance,” “insult,” or “menace.”Terms so broad, a consumer complaint qualifies.

Nigeria dropped 10 places to 122nd on the 2025 World Press Freedom Index with at least 3 journalists detained under the same Act in H2 2025 alone.

Nigeria has one of Africa’s most active digital spaces. It is becoming one of its most policed.

Reports show that over 200,000 Nigerians die each year from food-borne diseases, mostly children. The country loses $3.6 billion annually to food-related illnesses.

NAFDAC, SON, and FCCPC exist to prevent this. Yet Nigeria’s 2026 budget reportedly allocates billions to these same agencies for capital projects that are entirely outside their regulatory mandate.
