For nearly 24 hours, the Oklahoma City Thunder had held off everyone in the West to keep a lock on the top spot.

But heading into the first full week of March, after one straight OKC obliteration and just 0.5 games separating the top three teams this late in the year for the second time ever…

The Western Conference has a new No. 1 team: the Minnesota Timberwolves - beating the Trailer Blazers and after OKCa blowout 104-116 loss over the Los Angeles Lakers

▪️ The Hard Way: Lakers were up by 9 in the third quarter, but watched the Thunder chip away any hope of coming back, until garbage time… only for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams struggled to come back as OKC was outscored 37-29 in Q3

▪️ Ant: “they need to watch Timberwolves basketball”

▪️ Star guards go off: Russell gets 26 while Davis puts up 12 REB and 24, compared to Shia and Chet’s lackluster performance

Timberwolves Win vs. Trail Blazers: in an unexpectedly close game due to a significant run of games on the home stead, on the back end of a double double - the wolves pulled another win improving to 43-19 on the season

▪️ Taste of their own medicine: OKC led not once at all. LA rallied to win the second quarter 27-18, holding OKC – the league’s No. whatever defense and mediocre offense.

▪️ Shaking up streaks: The loss furthered the Lakers 5 in a row over OKC and snapped OKCs 7-3 win streak over the last 10 against bottom tier NBA teams (Rockets - Wizards, cmon).

How close is this race? A lot further than you could imagine. Minnesota healthily sits atop the West and gets zero recognition, which they’re fine with. Howl Yeah
