Richard Teder is making history this week as the first ever Estonian to play in The Open Championship after holing out for an eagle in qualifying to make it to Portrush. Today his week was made already as he went head to head against Bryson DeChambeau in a long drive competition.
Results were Bryson carried it 388 yards and Richard carried it 363 yards 🚀
Estonia has a population of just 1.4 million, basically half of the size of Chicago.
It has just nine golf courses.
Amateur Richard Teder grew up there, lives there, has won basically every event there.
And he just holed out for eagle on the third playoff hole to earn a spot in the open. @TheOpen
Estonia. And a hole out eagle. Hell yeah.
This is what qualifying is about. The entire golf population of Estonia will be locked in. It will likely have a great effect on the golf culture in the country that won’t fully be known for years.
And some in pro golf want less of this. It’s a real shame.
@acaseofthegolf1 I got to meet Richard 7 years ago, in Estonia. I think he was 12 or 13, while I was 18, and man did he impress me as a player then. He will be a name on a Tour in the future!
